FOTD: Metal Rock love

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

As promised here are a rushed snap of today's face with my beloved Metal Rock.
I changed outfits half way through the day as I got too damn hot so thought I'd do my eyes to compliment my top - everything else is what I had on at the start of the day though.

Yes - I'm fully aware you can't see my eyes through my sunnies!

Revlon Colorstay foundation in Caramel
Touche Eclat # 4

Bobbi Brown loose powder in Golden Orange
MAC blot powder
MAC Raizin Blush
MAC MSF in Metal Rock

Sleek Storm palette (gold/nude colours) on lid
Sleek eye dust in Vintage over the top
Lancome Hypnose mascara
Illamasqua liquid metal in Solstice on upper waterline and inner corners

MAC l/l in Hodgepodge
MAC lipstick in Siss
MAC lipglass in C-Thru

Off to catch the last of the days sun

Finally ...

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

...after yearning for this MAC MSF for the past 2 years I have acquired the elusive, limited edition Metal Rock and I LOVE it!

I wasn't sure it suited me when I swatched it on my hand as it didn't look as warm as I'd imagined it would look. I think my hand is having a pale day. However, I applied it over Raizin which I already had on this morning and it looks hoooooooot!

It's a deep bronze awash with gold flecks, quite versatile and not as scary as it looks in the pan. If I don't wanna rock it by itself then I'll throw it over a deep pink blush and create a sunkissed bronzed pink glow.

I'll do a FOTD later as my hair's a state and I look like a lion at the moment. Thank God my hairdresser's coming in a lil' while and my swag will be back on point! Haha!!

20 questions

Monday, June 29, 2009

1.Things you cannot leave the house without
My wallet, phone and keys would be the top three. However, I get a bit emotional if I forget to put lip balm in my bag.

2.Favourite brand of makeup
MAC, GOSH, NARS, Revlon, Barry M & Sleek

5. Favourite Perfume

Too many to choose from!
Chloe Eau de Parfum
Hugo Boss Deep Red (an old fave of mine)

6.Heels or Flats
I mostly wear flats during the day but always heels on a night out. I need to retrain my feet for heels as they've gotten too used to flats as both my ex and current boyf are the same height as me. as I'm not into towering over my men a la Katie Holmes but am thinking "F**k it" these days. We'll be like Amber Rose & Kanye! LOL

7. Do you make good grades
Yeah I was a pretty good student and got good grades. I hated maths though!

8. Favourite colours
Purple, black & gold

9.Do you drink energy drinks
Nope. They're weird.

10.Do you drink juice
Tesco orange & banana juice is niiiiiiiiice - but has me on the toilet afterwards! Orange, apple, exotic, I drink them all.

Yeah I do, but rarely do.

12. Do you eat fries with a fork
If I'm eating in a restaurant or have a fork to hand, but otherwise fingers all the way.

Hmm I'm alternating between a Ponds and Eucerin one at the mo. Neither will be repurchased when finished. I'm yet to find my HG facial mosituriser.

14. Do you want to get married later on in life
YES... definitely!

15. Do you get mad easily
I have very little patience for idiocy around me and will show it! I'm naturally a "go go go" person when faced with a task to do and I can't stand people who dither and slow me down or who just talk sh*t!

16. Are you into ghost hunting
Nah..but I'm intrigued about the supernatural.

17. Any phobias
Insects - anything that crawls or flies. I will scream blue murder if anything abnormal flies near me.

18.Do you bite your nails
No, but they split all the time :-(

19. Have you ever had a near death experience
Luckily no.

20. Do you drink coffee
Me no likey coffee.

I tag anybody who wants to complete this :-)

I hate the heat!

Monday, June 29, 2009

England's been hit by an unlikely heatwave this week which is gonna last through til Friday. Today in London, temperatures hit 84 degrees fahrenheit. I'm not happy.

For the past couple of Summers, for reasons unknown to myself as yet, my skin can no longer appear to take intense heat and reacts to it with an unsightly and uncomfortable heat/allergy rash. The skin on my fingers 'bubbles' up and I get a heat rash on my neck and chest which lasts for days. I spotted the finger rash attempting to surface a few weeks ago so am already armed with cream from my doctor and am waiting for an appt with a dermatologist who can hopefully shed some light onto what is causing this reaction.

Whilst my friends are whooping in joy at the sun (which to be honest we don't get a lot of in England), I'm willing Friday to hurry up and come as rain and lower temperatures have been predicted. I'm beyond grumpy right now.

My bedroom curtains are drawn as the sun's shining directly into my room and my hands are feeling tighter by the second! I'm not quite as moany and irritable as I was when I was in NY and suffering from the same symptoms last Summer, (that was hell on earth as the heatwave out there was just ridiculous) but I'm heading there!

No doubt tonight will be spent tossing and turning trying to sleep in the heat too.

Showing some love!

Friday, June 26, 2009

I thought I'd start a series of posts sharing the products that I'm really feelin' at the moment. They'll be a mixture of old and new and they may help somebody discover a product they would never have initially tried.

I'm really making an effort to dig out products that have gotten lost at the bottom of my beauty box instead of piling even more purchased goods on top of them and I'm sure a forgotten gem or two will be revealed.

Skin Boost Nourishing Hand Cream

Skin Boost Nourishing Hand Cream
This hand cream was in my Beauty Bible package and I LOVE it! It smells absolutely gorgeous (I thrust my hands in the face of whoever happens to be nearest to me and instruct them to sniff) and I was shocked to see that it's actually made for Tesco. When it's used up I'm definitely heading there to buy a couple more tubes.
I'm obsessive about using hand cream and quite fussy about what I use but this gets a big thumbs up from me. I love the cute packaging too.

Chanel Inimitable mascara

Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara
I've been using Maybelline Colossal the most out of my mascaras since it launched as I like the fat brush. However I reached for my trusty Chanel on Friday evening and let out a satisfied sigh as it separated and lengthened my lashes without clumping. The wand is the complete opposite to Collosal but still gives my lashes the wow factor. It's much thinner but gets to each and every lash with ease. The waterproof version doesn't budge until you're armed with your MU remover and cotton pads either.

Revlon Colorstay foundation

Revlon Colorstay foundation

This is love! I'm so annoyed that Revlon have denied me from discovering this sooner because they can't be bothered to stock my shade, Caramel in the UK. It's 2009 not 1959 - fix up. I've used this daily for the past 4 weeks and my MUFE foundations are gathering dust. I love the coverage this gives me, it doesn't feel heavy on my skin and it really does stay put which is the main problem I've always had with foundations in the past. No sensitivity outbreaks either! It comes in two formulas, one designed for oily/combination skin and one which comes with SPF12.

GOSH Velvet touch eyeliners

GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof Eyeliners

I really, reaLly love these as I've mentioned on a previous post. They go on so smoothly and the colour doesn't disappear into my waterline or turn into a smudged mess (Yes I'm talking to you Urban Decay 24-second pencils) after 15 minutes. I've read that the some of the lighter colours don't show up as well but all the shades I own are really vibrant and compliment my skintone perfectly. Next time GOSH do 3 for 2 in Superdrug try these out. I'm certain you'll love them just as much as I do.

MAC under the spotlight

Friday, June 26, 2009

I've been itching to fill this in. I'm a sucker for fun surveys.

How long have you been using MAC?
I bought my first MAC products in April 2001 (LOL I even remember the month. LOSER!)

What was your first MAC product?
The SA sold me the standard (and tired) WOC look of Oh Baby lipglass and Chestnut l/l. I also bought studio finish concealer, Select SPF 15 foundation and sheer shimmer powder in Taffy (disc).

What's your all time favourite MAC product?
It's a toss up between the e/s and blushers. Erm ...argh, I can't choose!!!

What's your least favourite MAC product?
I've never bothered to investigate their mascaras.

Do you own a Pro Card?
Yep *does the running man*

Your MAC foundation shade?
Hmmm I think I've been mismatched for years. I use NC50 but think I need to try NW43 to compare next time I try a MAC foundation to compare.

What's your favourite MAC foundation?
I really liked Moistureblend when I tried it. I don't use MAC foundations much anymore though.

Raizin & Loverush. They look damn good on me if I say so myself.

Mineralize Skin Finish Natural. I use this to set any liquid foundation I use; provides a light coverage with a matte yet glowy look. Yes, its one of those bizarre products that sets matte but also includes tiny light reflecting pigments to add a slight radiance to the skin.

I love Tempting, Neutral Pink, Era and so many others.

Siss is my fave lipstick. I love it.

Instant Gold. I HEART this!

Hmm I only own Orpheus and Mystery and love them both. Long lasting and easy to apply.

109 for under eye powder buffing/contouring, 239 for e/s packing and my beloved 136 for blusher application.

Nail Laquer:
Liking the 2 that I own Love and F'ship and Mercenary. The shades have to be pretty unique for me to buy them.

Pro Product:
Hmmm the pigments. Love the range of colours and their versatility.

Comment on the following MAC product; Have you used them? If so, give feedback.

Prep & Prime Skin:
I have the Prep & Prime Eye. I've only used it once though. I can't remember what I thought of it.

Full Coverage Foundation:

When I used it, it did teh job and it didn't look heavy or caked on. I'd def rebuy.

Studio Sculpt Foundation:

Face & Body Foundation:

Mineralize Satin Finish Foundation:
I liked it but in hindsight it was made me shine like a beacon!

Studio Fix Fluid:
I couldn't get a good colour match and flogged mine on Ebay. It was too dark, the shade below was just weird on me.

Hyper Real Foundation:

Select SPF15 Foundation:
This was the very first foundation I bought. Gave good coverage and was a nice intro to MAC bases.

Studio Tech Foundation:
Great coverage but felt a teeny bit heavy on the skin.

Studio Fix Powder:
Hmmm around the time I used this my skin was mega dry so this just made it look worse. I'd have to try it again now to give a proper review on it.

Studio Stick:

Hyper Real Pressed Foundation:

Beauty Powder:
Nice product and I like how you can build up the sheen too.

Sculpt and Shape Powders:

Loose Blot Powder:

Pressed Blot Powder:
It's always in my bag butI don't really like it, despite using it all the time. I think it gives my skin a grey cast sometimes, I dunno. Will be B2M'ing this, it's almost finished now.

Mineralize Skinfinish Natural:
Love this. I like the glow it gives me.

Mineralize Skinfinish:
Vrey pretty but I'm conscious of buying too many that look similar to one another as I hate having dupes of items. Looking fwd to Colour Craft though!

Bronzing Powder:
I have. It's nothing special. I bought it years ago and rarely reach for it.

Powder Blush:

Extensive shades and finishes. Last ages and have a great amount of pigment. I have too many!

I love Cheery! That's my fave. Love buffing it to high heaven using my 182 brush.

Mineralize Blush:
Hmmm not really moved by these. I rarely use the couple that I have. Will try to use them next week. I have too many blushers and I guess I've just forgotten about these!

Gel Blush:

Cream Colour Base:
Love them and have quite a few. Very versatile.

Studio Sculpt Concealer:

Select Cover Up Concealer:
I like it for under my eyes.

Select Moisturecover Concealer:

Studio Finish Concealer:
Hmm I think I had the wrong colour match. I've not repurchased it.

Studio Stick:

Lip Erase:
Doesn't come in a shade that suits me so have never tried it.

Tinted Lip Conditioner:

I have lots of MAC lippies. I love the finishes and colour spectrum they come in. Not drying on the lips either, which is a good selling point.

I'm not keen on how the lipglasses give my lips that white line on the inside of my lips - yuck! They come in nice shades though but I haven't bought any lately.

See Thru Lip Colour:

Pretty, but overpriced.

Cremesheen Glass:

Lip Gelee:
I have a couple. I find them a bit heavy so use them sparingly.

Lip Pencil:
Like the lipsticks, fantastic colour range.

Solar Bits:
Love them! I have Scatterrays, Bronzescape and Black Ore. So pretty but damn they're messy.

Nail Lacquer:
I'm very impressed with Love & F'ship and Mercenary. Prior to their purchases I refused to fork out for MAC polishes.

I have Chartru, Magrittes & Snapshot. I don't use them as much these days though.

Paint Pots:
I don't have any - yet! Will be snapping up a few to use instead of UDPP which is annoying me by leaving white visible marks under my e/s.

Again, great colour and finish range. Most of my e/s are MAC

I have loads of these in sample pots. I love the vibrancy and texture of them.

Eye Kohl:
N/A - I have a powerpoint in Navy Stain though. Similar to the GOSH velvet touch pencils so no need to splash out unless it's a colour I can't get cheaper.

Liquid Last Liner:
I hav 2 which I really like and the staying power is wicked! The colours I have are unique to the other coloured liners I own - Brassbeat and Electrolady.

Lustre Drops:

I bought Sun Rush. I haven't used it yet but will use it for a Summer glowy look soon as the swatch was nice. It's not greasy as I feared it'd be.

False Lashes:
Overpriced. I had a pair of #7 which I butchered in an attempt to put them on. I'll stick to Ardell ones from now on.

ProLash Mascara:

Plush Lash Mascara:

Fibre Rich Lash Mascara:

Dazzle Lash Mascara:

What has been your favourite MAC collection to date?
Hmmm C-Shock! Kicking myself I didn't buy more of the collection and am constantly looking for the e/s. Loved the bright colours and Eve as the face of the collection.

Which MAC collection in your opinion do you think was disappointing, if any?
Hmmm *thinks* I really wasn't entertained by Dame Edna or Hello Kitty. Whatever.

Which products do you think MAC are missing?
Not a product, but a service. Online shopping for Pro Card holders!! It's annoying having to either ring up or trek to a store everytime I fancy a splurge. I like the luxury of browsing and taking my time as I shop.

Bloody hell - this took longer than I thought it would! No more questionnaires/surveys for the rest of the year! LOL

Death of a legend

Friday, June 26, 2009

News of the death of the greatest entertainer to ever walk the face of this earth must have reached all four corners of the globe by now.

Micheal Jackson, the king of pop has died

After seeing a Twitter update saying Micheal Jackson had been rushed to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest, I googled to check its authenticity and immediately switched over to Sky News which hadn't even started coverage yet. 30 seconds later they broke the news that he was in hospital.

I watched for a while, called a few friends and my parents to see if they'd heard and it was while I was talking to my Dad, the newsreader interrupted the coverage to announce that Micheal Jackson had died. I screamed and dropped the phone.

My Dad (bless him) was panicking and yelling my name and I picked it in a daze just saying "He's dead Dad". My Dad kept telling me to calm down and I said I'd call him back. I don't know why, but I started to cry after I'd hung up. It felt as if I'd lost a friend.

Just 10 minutes prior to the announcement my cousin and I were saying to one another "Nah ..he can't die. Micheal Jackson die?! Are you mad?!! He's invincible!"

No other musical artist has lived with me the way Michael Jackson has. Artists come and go but his tunes have played in my cassette player, walkman, CD player, MP3 player and PC music folders over the years.

He was the first artist whose music I paid attention to and who had an impact on my musical tastes. I have memories of my brother and I aged 6 and 5 dancing away to his Thriller album whilst jumping up and down on our parents bed. We listened to that album every single day!! When my Dad bought us a copy of the Bad album, the good times continued!! LOL

Think of him what you will, but his music speaks for itself. You simply cannot touch his music. Play Billie Jean TODAY and it still sounds as fresh as it did back in 1984. He's inspired and still inspires so many artists across so many genres.

He had his health problems but I never thought it'd come to this, not now.

Remember the good times and not the revelations that clouded his career and public status over the past few years. My heart goes out to his poor children, how bewildered and scared they must be feeling.

Show me another artist who's sold 750 million albums and will bring the world to a standstill the way he has, even in death. He raised the bar in pop music and it's never been met by anybody and I don't think it ever will.

No other artist will touch generations the way Micheal Jackson has. He's a true legend and idol who will never be forgotten.

The Nail Files: MAC Mercenary

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I used this for the first time this week and I'm really liking it. I've always steered clear of golds and bronzes on my nails as I feel they look dirty against my skintone. I don't regret this purchase for a second. This shade is so complimentary and I love the sparkle within the polish that gleams everytime the sun catches it. I've been doing loads of washing up and finicky things with my fingers and it hasn't so much as chipped yet either.

I'm not really one for splashing out on nail polishes as their shelf life isn't the best but I'll wear this whatever the weather or season so I don't care. It's not a tacky, brash gold at all. I wish my camera could pick up just how lovely this really is.

Newsflash! New LE Sleek 'Safari' palette out soon

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Sleek have just announced on Twitter that their next LE I-Divine palette is Safari is due out on July 8th!

I did a bit of investigative work and found this image of it:

Sleek i Divine Safari palette

I'm loving the look of this - another one to add to the collection! If I make this my only MU purchase of July, that's okay right??

I've read this is only gonna be out for one month only, whether that's true or not I dunno, but I'm not taking any chances. See ya at Superdrug!

Liar! Liar!

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

What we knew all along has finally come out in the open. Kimberley Vlaminck, the Belgian teen who caused a storm last week after claiming 56 stars had been tattooed on her face as she slept when she only asked for three had admitted she was awake the whole time and was fully aware of what was going on.

After initially loving them, she made up the story of falling asleep after seeing how angry her father was.

Anybody who believed her initial tale of falling asleep in the chair and waking to see her face looking like the sky at night is a damn fool. Who the hell falls ASLEEP whilst having a tattoo - ON THEIR FACE?!!!!

Kimberley Vlaminck, Pinocchio's partner in crime.

Furthermore would you really let somebody who looked like this loose on your face?! Answers on a postcard.

Wrongly accused tattoo artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz

For the record if I had came home with that shit on my face, my parents would have had me seeing stars by the time they'd finished with me!!

I won - AGAIN!

Monday, June 22, 2009

Yeah baby!

I won another giveaway at the weekend. This time a goody bag from Lipstick123 which'll consist of Canadian brand make up goodies.

I'd forgotten I'd even entered, so this was a very nice surprise considering I'm feeling sorry for myself with a nasty sore throat at the moment.

Thank you!

Also thank you to The Makeup Snob, Louise, Glamourous Beauty and Girl With The Golden Touch for nominating me for more blog awards.

Thanks ladies :-)

Lovin' me some NARS right now

Sunday, June 21, 2009

I'm embroiled in a raging love affair with NARS cosmetics at the moment. I've found myself reaching for their blushers so much more lately. The quality is amazing, they're extremely pigmented, do not streak and are incredibly easy to blend. I have a few of the blushes and thought I'd share some swatches with you.

(L-R) Lovejoy, Ninotchka, Albatross, Luster, Taj Mahal, Crazed, Sin

I've just won my first NARS e/s duo for a bargainous £10.51 instead of £23 off Ebay. Scorching Sun which is part of the current Summer collection will be winging it's way to me shortly. Yeaaaaaaaaaah! I fell in love with it when the MUA swatched it for me showing how intense it is. It really is a gorgeous orange/gold combo.

I'd like a few more e/s duos now. Which ones do you own and which would you rec I take a look at?

I've been tagged: Beauty 411

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Too much blush tagged me to do this so I thought I'd do it quickly before collapsing into bed.

Smoky eyes. I love the way you can play them up or down but maintain that elusive air of mystery and sex appeal.

Do you have a beauty vice?
Definitely blushers. I have loads!

What part of your body do you love?
Hmmm, I wouldn't say love cos I'm super self-critical but I like my lips, boobs and ass - at times.

I try and take my make up off every night (try, I said). Lots of moisturiser with SPF and drink water a plenty.

'Rebound shoes' ...and the rest.

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Liparazzi suggested I find myself a pair of 'rebound shoes' and I did - accidentally on Ebay yesterday morning. I ended up sniping them last night for 99p!! LOL

I got home this afternoon (long night!) and checked my Ebay account expecting to have been outbid and I'd won! Even if I don't like them when they arrive, who cares? They only cost me 99p + postage. I'm laughing. They're from New Look so should be okay for me size-wise as I have a few pairs from there.

I was on an Ebay auction winning streak last night it seems as I won all the other items that I'd been watching all week too
  • Jemma Kidd retractable blusher brush - £1.04
  • NARS e/s duo in Scorching Sun - £10.51 (RRP £23). Can't wait to get this!!
  • GOSH velvet touch eye liner in Black Ink - £2.20
All under RRP and BN. I love Ebay!!

I also bought a pair of deck shoes earlier this week. I've been meaning to buy a pair of these since last Summer but could never find a pair that fit properly. Well thank you God for New Look's wide fit range cos surprisingly they had a couple of size 8s left and they fit perfectly and don't even look like a wider fit, so all good.

Finally I picked up another checked shirt. It's from NL's tall range so a longer fit in the body which I appreciate being 5ft8 and I love the colourway. I can see this being teamed with my deck shoes and a pair of skinnies on a lazy day.
I have a clothes shopping list as long as my arm so will be ploughing through that over the next few weeks, so expect a few more retail purchases.

It's a sad, sad day.

Friday, June 19, 2009

I ordered these babies a couple of days ago convinced we'd live a long and happy life together. Seeing as only my size was left, I was convinced it was fate. They arrived this morning and they don't fit!!! I'm a size 8 and they come up like a size 6! I'm so annoyed!!!!

How friggin hot is the promo pic?! I had my outfit sorted for them, was busy imagining how hot I'd look in them on a night out and I can't get half my bloody foot in! I am NOT happy.

*sighs* As you were ....

Don't mind me, I just need to blog/vent my frustration out and get through this initial mourning period and I'll be okay *sob*

And the next H&M designer collaboration is with ...

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

....*drum roll* Jimmy Choo!

Due in 200 stores on 14th November the latest designer offering will consist of shoes, bags and accessories as well as a matching clothing line. They're even designing something for the fellas too with a collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

Tamara Mellon, president of Jimmy Choo.

This should be a goody! Anything has to be better than the joke that was Madonna's collection. I still think the best collaboration was the first - Stella McCartneys. I still want the woollen blouson and wide legged trousers that I was unable to get hold of how many years later!

What's been your favourite H&M designer collection?

I've been thinking ...

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

I've bought an awful lot of make up over the past 3 months and Ebay is the devil when it comes to luring me in with fab beauty bargains. Bad Ebay. My San Reno beauty box has actually split on one side due to the sheet weight of the blushers I have stacked and squeezed into it.

So I decided yesterday afternoon that I'm not gonna buy any make up at all cut down my make up purchases drastically until August when MAC Colour Craft comes out here in the UK. I love make up but I still have stuff I bought back in December 08 that I've not used yet - that's not good. I need to work my way steadily through the gorgeous stuff I already own instead of hoarding make up like a squirrel does nuts!

Besides I've been seriously neglecting my wardrobe lately so think I'm gonna concentrate on my other love, fashion for a while.

I have some Ebay purchases arriving this week and I aim to watch and hopefully win the few items that I'm currently watching on Ebay but after they've been won, that is it! No more hauls from me for a while - just clothing ones instead no doubt.

I think I may follow in the footsteps of a friend and fellow blogger and also give my Ebay and Paypal passwords to my boyf and tell him to change them for the timebeing. I still have a box of NYX and MAC haulage sitting in New York that my boyf is taking his sweet time to ship over to me so he needs to hurry up and send it to me so I can still get my fix without dipping into my bank balance!

On a serious note, my decision was encouraged further after reading Saskia the Salsa Fairy's latest blog post this evening which I think many of us can relate to in one way or the other. I'm gonna be digging deep into my stash and begin reviewing, swatching and FOTD'ing what I already own and in many cases have downright forgotten about!

How much do you find yourself spending on makeup on average in a week or month? How much do other beauty blogs influence your spending habits and do you think your expenditure on make up is out of control?

Sleek & Barry M Dazzle Dust haulage

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Yesterday I popped into my local Superdrug, which is an approximate 3 min walk from my house (dangerous) and came out with a few bits.

The guy at the till overcharged me and I had to go back and argue that I'd been charged for an extra Dazzle Dust which resulted in me being caught in the thunderstorm that hit us unexpectedly.

Despite having what was quite possibly the largest golf umbrella in London over my head, I still got wet, my flats were flooded, jeans soaked to my mid calfs and I didn't realise rain was leaking through the top of my brolly so my hair got wet too - arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!

Grrrr! That'll teach me to pay attention when handing my card over for payment in future.

"It's raining, it's pouring ...."

Drenching aside, my new purchases soon distracted me after I'd dried myself off

Sleek Acid I-Dive Palette (LE)
Barry M Dazzle Dusts :

Top row: Old Gold (24), Pink Gold (3), Petrol Black (98), Crystal Blue (81)
Bottom row: Not on the website, both LE and can't remember the shade names!
Matte purple (LED2), Hot pink with very slight shimmer and almost matte (LED1)

LOVING Old Gold and the two LE dusts. Old Gold has the most amazing sparkle. My crap camera couldn't pick it up and I'd urge you to check this particular dazzle dust out for yourselves. It's beautiful. The purple is just what I've been looking for lately too - bright, intense and matte so I'm very pleased with that :-)

Sleek Acid palette swatches, courtesy of Miss Virtue/Patience @ The Virtues Of Beauty cos I'm feeling too lazy to swatch it again myself.

The 3 for £9.99 offer on Barry M Dazzle Dusts and Fine Glitter is still on in Superdrug & Boots so stock up while you have the chance.

Yay! New toys to play with :-)

The Adorable Blog Awards

Monday, June 15, 2009

MELipstickrules123 and Miss Virtue have been kind (or mad depending how you view it) enough to both nominate me with an Adorable Blog award. I'm so 'not' adorable IRL, it must be my cheesy grin fooling you!

I'm very touched as I really don't think my blog's that spesh in comparison to many others. Thanks for for the love ladies. It's really appreciated :-)

Lipstick, you always make me laugh as you try and convince yourself you're not gonna buy any new make up and then low and behold you publish a new post with more goodies LOL

Miss Virtue, you're an expensive friend lady!! My make up expenditure has shot through the roof over the past few months. Love your blog and your honest, impartial reviews. Your blog doesn't get the love it deserves.

Everybody go check these blogs out and follow if you're not already. Thank you please!

The Adorable Blog Award Rules are:

-Include the award logo in your blog or post.

-Nominate as many blogs which you like.

-Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.

-Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.

-Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award

I nominate the following beauty blogs:

Arshiax3 - Love her bright FOTDs, they're fab!
Belle Du Jour - A total sweetheart with a fun blog who makes me love NYC more than ever! Yay!
The Pretty Girl's World - Love Nikki's use of colour in her FOTDs
Milan Rouge - She makes me want to buy everything she FOTD's or reviews - and I almost have!!
La Dolce Vita - I've followed Celly for aaaaaaaaaaages! Super skilled and gorgeous with it.
Liparazzi - I only discovered her blog last week and have posted loads on it already. She's a super friendly chick too.
Krasey Beautiful - My fave dancer! Love how she's always on top of new collections and she's totally sold MUFE to me over the past week!
Live.Laugh.Love.Fashion - A great mix of fashion, make up, and other random stuff you wanna read. Extra bonus points for blogging about an old school friend of mine this morning! :-)
The Makeup Snob - Sara! Love her reviews, swatch posts and love her hair!!! LOL
The Makeup Fiend - I love Erin's looks and her e/s combinations. Fab!
Too Much Blush - Home of quite possibly the best MSF collection I've seen in my make up wearing life! Love her swatches and EOTD's.

Dvoradivine - I love how Deborah isn't scared to reach for the brightest colours in her collection.

Wow ..I got a bit carried away there! The list of blogs that I follow is ridiculous. This took me ages to do and I'm only stopping now cos I need to get in the shower!!!!!

Who'd have thought it? BIG thank you to my followers!

Wow I never imagined that I'd get 5 let alone 100 people interested enough in my ramblings to want to 'follow' my blog posts. Thank you for all your comments and feedback over the past 5 weeks. I've met some great personalities through my blog and enjoy the banter we all have on Twitter - add me if you haven't already and I'll be sure to follow you right back :-)

Blogging wouldn't be
as much fun if I was talking to myself, my posts were unseen and I wasn't conversing with fellow make up addicts who don't look at me in confusion when I say "I've got to B2M tomorrow" or "I can't wait until Colour Craft comes out" LOL The recent feedback I've had from my FOTDs has boosted my confidence so, so much. I now have NO excuse to leave so many e/s untouched in my palettes! Thank you.
Thanks again girls! xx

My Beauty Bible goodies

Saturday, June 13, 2009

I said I'd do a post on this and I've finally gotten round it.

Ok, back in March I signed up for the second time as a Beauty Bible Tester. The deal is you fill in a detailed questionnaire about your skin type and beauty concerns, when accepted you pay £30 via Paypal and in return you're then sent a package of beauty and skincare products that are 'matched' to your needs to test over a period of time.

You then have to submit detailed reviews of each product by a strict deadline.
These reviews are compiled and the stats go into The 21st Century Beauty Bible and other 'bibles' in the series which review dozens of high street and high end brands/products, separating the good from the bad as well as offering beauty & skincare tips too. I have a copy of it that I bought about 3 years ago or so, and it's been updated with newer products that have hit the market since then.

The first time I became a tester it was back in 2003 or so. From memory I received a Stila convertible, Chanel face powder (which was useless as it was as from away from my skintone as you can imagine), and Skinceuticals eye cream (which was worth something silly like £80) amongst my list of 10 items. I ended up flogging the Chanel powder on Ebay for a tidy lil' sum. Hehe.

This time round I was hoping and praying that any make up I was sent would suit my skintone and I waited for my email listing my items with bated breath. Initially I wasn't too bowled over by the list of items I was told I'd be receiving, but looked forward to receiving them nevertheless.

There was a mad rush to get my package to me before I went to NY in April, as I received the confirmation email that my package was gonna be sent out 3 days before I was supposed to leave. They sent the package by special delivery the next day so I'd get it before leaving but I missed it anyway as I was out sorting out last min stuff for my trip and they didn't actually
tell me that they were sending it otherwise I'd have stayed at home that morning.

I also wasn't expecting to be accepted onto the panel so quickly as I applied really late after telling myself I wouldn't bother to do it again after the Chanel disappointment. I also assumed there'd be dozens (if not a few hundred people) who'd signed up before me. I was one of the last wave of applicants ro be accepted for this run but I'd advise you to sign up anyway and you'll just be on the waiting list ready for when they start testing again.

If you don't submit your reviews you'll charged for the full RRP of the items you're sent so don't try and pull a fast one by getting your products and then not bothering to do the reviews.

This is what I was sent this time round

*Tesco Sun Soothing Sensitive Aftersun Lotion
*Dermalogica Stress Relief Treatment Oil (forgot to include in pic)
*Yin Yang pH-Amino Gold Defence Lotion
*Normandie Rush Hour Shower 2in1 Shower Wash
*Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm with Rosewood
*Dr. Organic Bioactive Skincare 100% Organic Tea Tree Deodorant
*L'oreal Chrome Shine Eyeshadow in Starry Night
*Skin Boost Nourishing Hand Cream Macadamia Nut & Honey
*Revlon Colorstay Lipliner in Nude (forgot to include in pic)
*Eucerin Sensitive Skin Hydro-Protect Hydrating & protecting Cream SPf15 Normal to dry

Funnily enough the stuff I initially rolled my eyes at has come in really handy. My skin has spun out of control lately and would have you think I was allergic to direct sunlight the way it reacted after that heatwave we had a couple of weekends ago, so the aftersun has been beneficial. Also that hand cream is divine!! My mouth fell open when I looked at the back and saw it was stocked for TESCO!!!!!!! I'll do a review on it next week, it smells gorgeous. I'm gonna continue to buy that if nothing else. That'll teach me to turn my nose up!

The L'oreal e/s has a gorgeous shimmer that's like no other e/s I own and I'm interested in swatching some of the other colours now.
I've only tested the deodarant and Eucherin cream which I use as my day cream at the moment. They're both okay so far though I'm not bowled over by the smell of the tea tree oil in the deodarant.

Now the thing is I got my package after the deadline for the reviews to be submitted and the lady I emailing at the company knows this. When I emailed to let her know I'd finally received them 2 weeks ago, she expressed relief that I'd finally got them but I don't think I'm actually expected to review them anymore. She didn't mention the reviews - and I've heard nothing more from her. To be honest, that's fine by me cos from memory the forms are so lengthy I can't be assed to anyway!

For £30 you get a mix of products that you wouldn't necessarily have given a second glance at, or heard of. You can be lucky and get some really fab products in your stash that you've always wanted to try but haven't cos they're too pricey or have bene unavailable to you for whatever reason.

Review: Sleek eyeshadow palettes & swatches

Saturday, June 13, 2009

What with my recent discovery of the Sleek blog page and the news that they'll soon be selling online, I dug out my palettes and reminded myself why I'd bought them in the first place. For under a fiver each, these are such a bargain. If you don't own one or are still sitting on the fence have a look at my swatches. The shades are so pigmented and the quality just can't be underestimated in these at all.

Finally the colours are so complimentary and concrete proof that you don't need to reach for high-end products all the time to get quality or create the best make up looks. The variety of shades you get for under £5 is brilliant. I love them both and think every woman, particularly WOC should own these as a staple in their collection whether you're a pro or just starting out.

Swatched with no base underneath - imagine how they'd look WITH an e/s primer!

Miss Virtue has kindly swatched their new acid palette and that'll be soon joining its siblings and settling into its new home on Monday with a bit of luck. I've already been in my local Superdrug and swatched my hand to death LOL

There's also a palette called Chaos which I don't own, but is all matte shades if I recall correctly.

Oh and they will be shipping to the states when the site goes live so you Yanks can finally gets your hands on this fab UK brand.

In the meantime I'll see my UK chicks in Superdrug!!

Superdrug and on Sleek's new online site which is coming tres soon!

FOTD: There's no smoke without fire ....

Friday, June 12, 2009

I met up with a dear friend yesterday which was really nice as I haven't seen her for almost 2 years! *waves at Helen* Personally I think she should start a beauty/fashion blog of her own as she's gorgeous and I've seen her do some great FOTD's on a forum we used to post on.

Later on I started playing around with my palettes and accidentally created this

Revlon Colorstay foundation in Caramel
MAC Select cover-up concealer
MAC beauty powder blush in Eversun
NARS Luster blush over the top of Eversun

MAC Smoke and Diamonds e/s on lid
MAC knight Divine e/s on outer "V"
MAC Carbon e/s in crease
MAC Solar bits in Black Ore along upper lashline and outer "V" (fallout alert!!)
Urban Decay 24-7 pencil in Zero on waterline
Shiseido The Make Up Mascara base
Chanel Inimitable waterproof mascara

MAC Hodgepodge l/l

MAC lipglass in Chai

Milani crystal gloss for lips in Whisper

What do you think? Oh and is there a way to avoid Black Ore from falling all over my face??

FOTD - Style Warriors inspired

Thursday, June 11, 2009

I had a play with my e/s today and came up with this Style Warriors inspired look. I didn't buy Bright Future or Vibrant Grape e/s last week as I have enough yellow and purple options that I can play with. I've decided I need a nice matte purple though after doing this.

Revlon Colorstay foundation in Caramel
MAC Select cover-up concealer
Bobbi Brown powder in Golden Orange
MAC MSFN in Dark
MAC blot powder
MAC On A Mission beauty powder blush

L'oreal Hip duo in Flamboyant (to start off with on lid, but didn't like the way the yellow was blending. Did use the purple though)
MAC Going Bananas e/s on lid/inner "v"
MAC Parfait Amour on lid (just a little bit over the L'oreal purple)
MAC Grape pigment in crease
MAC Pink Pearl pigment in outer "v"
MAC Retrospeck as highlight
GOSH Velvet touch liner in Purple Stain on waterline
Shiseido The Make Up Mascara Base
Chanel Inimitable waterproof mascara

MAC lipliner in Hodgepodge
MAC Siss lipstick (blotted)
Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss in Toast to Shine
