Oooh la la!

I'm going to Paris for a few days next month with the Mr and was was wondering if you guys could help me out a little.

I've never been before (I've never had the urge to go if I'm honest), despite it being 2 hours away on the train and haven't got a clue what we should check out - other than the obvious tourist attractions.

Any recs for nice restaurants, things to see or shopping areas? To be honest I just wanna find Sephora and then retrace Carrie's steps in SATC, bar the stepping in dog shit episode but that won't be fair on hubby. As much as he entertains my penchant for all things SATC, I think he'd draw the line at me running around Paris in a tutu acting out 'the lost scenes' LOL

I read that the patisserie she's sat in, in the clip I posted has been closed down and transformed into a restaurant so that's that off the list :-(

These are my favorite places:
-Colette and Montaigne Market to shop (maybe my top 2 favorite stores in the world)
-La Duree to eat at, its on the Champs De Lysee(did I spell that right)? Prob not! It has amazing French macaroons and food.
- Tallivent if you want a crazy extravagant meal. It is beyond fantastic!

Let me know how it goes

I went in the summer for the 1st time and I really enjoyed it. If I remember correctly Centre Georges Pompidu had many restaurants to choose from and it also had a Sephora close by too and other shops. (im not sure if thats the name of the gallery I visted but they are all in that centre).

Hope that helps and have fun Paris is defo a great city to visit

P.S. I wouldn't visit the Eiffel tower during the day it looks like a piece of metal, its much more better at night with the lights.

The Eiffel tower is worth going up just because its so famous, but definitely try to go up the Tour Montparnasse too..it gives the same amazing views but the Eiffel tower is in those views! There is one Sephora in the Carousel du Louvre (the shopping area underneath the Louvre) but im sure there will be others too. Hope this helps a little!

How can you not have wanted to go :O Paris is a wonderful city. Best of Europe where New York is the best in the states (; I live in Copenhagen myself and I have been traveling my whole life also to London.

Anyway you would definitely want to see Tour D'eiffel and then you want to go to notre dame, it is so beautiful there. When I am in Paris I live in my favorite place of the town which is the Latin Quarter the food the people everyone are so kind and it tastes amazing. Now my favorite shopping street is "Avenue Montaigne". It is where for instance carrie lived and the dior shop she fell in is there too :P

It is an amazing street very beautiful and you can see the eiffel tower from there.

You should definitely go to Louvre as well to see Mona Lisa. Personally I dont like museums but Mona Lisa is a must to see!

xoxo

I love Paris! I really recommend Sacre Couer and Montmartre, the basillica is beautiful. It's really bohemian round there and there are lovely cafes and restaurants where you can just sit and watch the world go by and see the artists at work. There is a Sephora on the Champs Elysees that is pretty big as well. Then there is the usual Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame. Didn't go to too many bars so can't really recommend any. But when I walked past the hotel that Carrie stayed in when she lived in Paris, I burst out crying in the street!! What a loon, my bf looked mortified!

I was going to suggest Sephora but you've already got that one on your list. I'm expecting a make up haul then :P

I'm not help to you though, considering how close I live to France the only place I've been is Disneyland :) Enjoy your trip!

@Shangri-La - You cried outside "Carrie's hotel"??? LMAO!

@Kelly - Nah I probably won't buy anything at all. There's nothing I need. I just wanna gawp and swatch LOL Thanks xx

Shopping wise the area around the Galeries Lafayette department stores on Boulevard Hausemann is quite good - lots of the high street stores are there, including a Sephora. Galeries Lafayette itself is good too, especially for accessories. I love their homewares store too (they have three stores - womens, mens & homewares).

Last time I was there we went to dinner and the show at the Moulin Rouge. It was really expensive, the food was a bit crap but it was the most unintentionally camp and funny thing I've seen in a long time, thoroughly entertaining!

You should definitely go for a wander around Montmartre and it goes without saying to check out the sparkly Eiffel Tower at night. Have a fab time :-)

Aaaw, lucky you! I lived just outside of Paris last year so have a few gems:

*The Marais - this is such a fun area of Paris, full of loads of independent shops and cafes. It's a great place to grab brunch and gawp at all the really trendily dressed students...

*For cheap food, try the Latin Quarter, which has nearly every type of cuisine imaginable. Loads of choice, some are a little bit touristy and crap, but there is a phenomenal couscous place and seafood restaurant. If you're veggie or like veggie food, try the Maoz falafel stand in the centre, which has awesome falafel wraps to take away for pennies.

*If in the Latin Quarter, try Le Caveau des Oubliettes. It's a brilliant and FREE(!) little jazz club, hidden in the cellars of a bar. Check their website, as they have different performers every night and frequently have some of the best performers in Paris. It's a really great atmosphere, with both students and lecturers from the Sorbonne which is just a stonesthrow away.

*BHV, near the Hotel de Ville is a massive department store, which is an outlet for Galeries La Fayette, Paris' main department store. There's all the usual brands like Longchamp etc plus a lovely beauty hall, but it's mostly last season's items which are reduced, usually by 50%. The homewares and crafts sections are particularly lovely :)

Hope this helps - sure you'll have a wonderful time! X

I love Paris! When we went we didn't actually go up the Eiffel Tower or go into the Notre Dame because the queues were soo long! But just seeing the Eiffel Tower was immense! I'd recommend going to Monmarte, it's absolutely beautiful. There are some breathtaking views, lovely churches, and an artists square that is surrounded by restaurants. Definitely go to the Champs Elysses for some shopping, all the designer shops and more! I went to Sephora and had a bit of a surprise when randomly some Britney music came on really and all the staff gathered at the entrance. We thought someone famous was about to arrive! But they all just started dancing and getting the customers to join in, bizarre but lovely! Have fun :) xxx

So you're coming to my hometown, good !!! Paris is a really nice city, very romantic even if Parisians can be quite rude :((( but you would be fully able still to appreciate the charms of the city !!
For shopping, i can recommend you :
- The department stores, Galeries Lafayette & Printemps very pratical since it is gathering the main french brands
- Rue de Rivoli, a main street in the 1St district in the center with a lot of shopping stores, departement store (bhv) and..Sephora and from this street, you can walk to the Louvre Museums. This street is good because you can mix tourism & shopping
- Le Marais, a gay/hype neighborhood with hype/trendy designers & concept stores
- ST Germain neigborhood for typical french designers as well

For tourism :
- Of course the eiffel tower....very touristic !!
- Champs Elysees
- if you have time for museums : the Louvre museum or the Musee d'orsay
- L'ile saint louis, a small island in the middle of paris , small old pedestrians street (once you are there, even if it is winter, take a break at Berthillon to have one delicious icecream)
- The Alexander III bridge, so romantic to walk there with a view of the Seine !!
- La coupole, the traditional typical parisian brasserie

For eating :
- Laduree, the reference for macarons pastries or...Pierre Herme which is a good rival (my favorite macaron there is chocolate & passionfruit)
- Le Kong, very parisian place, this is one of the restaurant when Carrie was in SATC, it is in rue de rivoli so you can shop and have a drink there, the view is amazing if you ask to be upstairs
- Mama Shelter, very parisian as well but not in the trendy place, the ambiance is hip hop chic...
- Bastille is a funky neighborhood where you have a lot of restaurants and bars, this is one of the main spot to go out in paris so very crowded in the week end ! The main street there is Rue de lappe

So many things to see that i gave just some main places, hope it would help ! Enjoy your stay !!!

I went to Paris for the first time last summer with a group of friends and it was AMAZING. I would suggest you visit Sacre Coeur it has beautiful views. We went to Versaille which is also amazing, it's a little bit out of the way but well worth it I thought. Definately Eiffel tower and champs elysee are so much better at night.
And like someone else suggested you should go to the Latin quarter, it's buzzing, so much to see and do there.

Theres also a huge Sephora on the Champs Elysee and it was open till about 11 when I was there.

Hope you have a gd time!
