Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette + swatches (WOC)

So on Friday, I bought the most hyped up beauty product of the year so far, the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland inspired eyeshdow palette.

After popping into Debenhams, Oxford Street I was told by a SA that they only had 400 left, which wouldn't be going on sale until Saturday when the 'launch party', which took place yesterday (How can you have an offical launch party after you've already sold 200 of the said product?!). Anyway, I was able to pick it up in the Debenhams branch at Westfield after the manager informed me that she only had 40 left to sell that day and that the rest would be sold on Saturday.

Miss Virtue picked hers up today from Oxford street and was told by a SA that only 2000 were supplied for UK distribution (who knows what to believe anymore!!)

They are also selling them one per customer too.

Now, don't get me wrong, like many others, I'm actually sick to the back teeth of hearing about this palette now, but after comparing the eyeshadows in this and the Book of Shadows II palette, I decided to purchase this as I don't actually own any Urban Decay eyeshadows and have heard and read positive things about their quality.

I have an aversion to the packaging, so I'm not gonna start gushing about how 'fantastic' it is, as I'm not 5 years old and have no desire for 'pop up' anything! After seeing Lipglossing's pictures, I was convinced that the palette was actually far bigger than it is in reality, and was dreading being punched in the face by a wild mushroom, the minute I opened the box, so I was pleasantly surpsied to see how compact the palette actually is.

The main purpose of this post is to display swatcches on a darker skintone as I think these are severely lacking when you enter 'Alice in Wonderland palette swacthes' in Google. I hope some of you find these useful.

My favourites shades are Muchness, Mushroom and Oraculum. They haven't held back on the glitter in Midnight Tea Party and White Rabbit either, so disco queens will love those. I not the biggest fan of the UD 24/7 pencils as Zero smudges like a bitch on me, but I love the colour of flipside so am willing to give them another chance in order to make that baby work!

So come on, own up! Who fell for the hype, caved in and bought one too? Is your life complete now that you have it in your possession? Or do you have a little buyers remorse eating you up inside? OR are you point blank refusing to buy into this hysterical frenzy over a bunch of eyeshadows?

Let Aunty Vex know!

ETA: I haven't used the palette yet, so a follow up FOTD will emerge shortly with a conclusion detailing whether I think I've wasted my money or not!

What do you think of the actual shadows though? Knew you'd like Oraculum :P I'm curious seeing as they're your first UDs. Is the hype worth it if you do kinda like the 'Magic Kingdom' popping up in your face? ;)

Migdnight Tea Party and White Rabbit don't get much love from me.

BTW, depot this and Imma gonna hunt you down!

The colours look amazing, but I am refusing to part that much cash for those shadows. I really do like the colours - such a pity about the prices. The recession is not over. kmt

I brought one yesterday and I have to say I was taken in by the 'cuteness' of the packaging.

I've had urban decay eye shadows before (which I have loved and hated in equal measures)but the majority of colours in this palette seem fairly wearable, only time will tell!

@Lipglossiping - I haven't USED them yet! I've just swatched them, but when I do a FOTD with the palette I can give a better opinion. They're smooth on application, I can say that much so far.

@Sofrolushes - Well, they work out at around £2.30 per shadow which I think is reasonable so the palette would make a good buy if you don't own a lot of shadows, but yeah I understand where you're coming from.

@Sammypotter - Yeah, how they'll perform when I use them will determine whether this was a waste of money or not!

@Lpglossiping - Cutting the mushrooms out in a minute ...!! LOL

I bought this on Tuesday from Westfields in London too. They kindly texted me to let me know they were in store and ready to buy. The MA also told me they had ordered 200 for their store and only 2000 were going to be sold in the country. I bought it because I don't have any other BOS's and the colours looked lovely. I have tried it and the quality is pretty good. I am also a fan of the book, Alice in Wonderland. I would have regretted it if I hadn't bought it, I fell for the hype but no regrets as its such good value too. xxx

Yes I caved, and my life is now complete, ;) haha. Glad you got on too lovely!

Guilty, after passing it off as a glitter-fest from the swatches, I bought one!

Ah I'm the opposite - the packaging is calling to me but the shades aren't - I have a UD palette and so have most of the colours, and can't justify £28 for some pretty cardboard. So far so strong!

I have made a decision (trying to be sensible for ONCE in my life)not to buy this because I have all but two of the colours, both of which are permanaent anyway... See Bank Manager, I can be good!

I actually ordered this from Debenham's web site, and it arrived at my home 3 days later. This will allow me to expand my shadow collection with Urban Decay, since I didn't have any to start with!

Same as Mizzworthy, too many dupes (on the dancefloor). If you do depot - can I have the outer palette? ;)

I was determined to be all cool and aloof and NOT give in to the hype. But they became available online on payday and suddenly I became very weak-willed.. It's not arrived yet but hopefully soon. The colours look really nice on your skintone by the way.

I knew I was going to get this, I love UD and only had the Get Baked pallet. I'm going to Jamaica in 3 weeks and this way I only need to bring the one set as opposed to 12 single shadows. I swatcched them and am in lurve!

haha you gave in! i gave in too. not used it yet, no even swatched it. still debating whether i should keep it for myself or give it away ...

I'm so tempted. I haven't got any Urban Decay shadows (never have) and really, I shouldn't be missing out . . !

If they sold UD in Australia I would be all over this :X though I'm still kinda bummed that they just renamed shades and didnt create any new ones!

Ahhhh you caved!

I love Flipside on you, but I'm still not interested enough to get one. As you know, it troubles me that the most hyped product of the year so far is more or less a rehash of stuff that's already on the market...

I am glad I bought this too, can't believe the woman on Oxford Street was so sure we wouldn't be able to get one!

I don't own any UD shadows, so I knew I was deffo going to be getting one, I've played about with mine and I adore it :)

I must be in the minority, as I never wanted this palette... I know that I wouldn't use even half of their shades, so it was pretty obvious for me that I didn't need it...
Lol@ the "I 'm not 5, I don't like pop-up anything"! Haha! Too true, the packaging would be perhaps better suited on a girl's playroom, instead of a vanity table..!

xx
