MAC Spring Colour Forecast + Ombre Blush swatches

Sunday, March 07, 2010

So finally, MAC Spring Colour Forecast is here in the UK, and I wasn't particularly bowled over when I went to view it on Thursday. I came away with two of the Ombre blushes but nothing else caught my eye from the collection. For those building up your stash, I'm sure you may find it more appealing but I have dupes of so many of the items, that anything else I had bought, would have been a waste of money.

When I swatched Ripe Peach instore, I made sure I went outside to see how it looked in natural daylight and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a matte peach, it has a smoother finish and a subtle gold shimmer to it.
I've heard that the demand for this in the U.S is crazy, now that it's sold out everywhere. Personally, I don't think it's worth paying way over RRP for. Yes, it's a pretty blush, very smooth to apply and the amount you get will last you for a good while depending on usage, but ..*shrugs* I don't think it's a LE "must have". You can find suitable dupes if you look hard enough.

Also, the pigment (or rather lack of) in it has left me disappointed. A simple swatch with my finger transferred to my hand barely shows up. I need to apply it firmly with my blush brush (MAC 130)  to get a flush of colour and it also fades after a few hours so it's lasting power won't be winning any awards.

Gripes aside, I'm still glad I managed to get my hands on Ripe Peach and my peach blush collection is now complete. I prefer to work more with the pink side of it when applying, as it gives the peachiness a new dimension and gives me a lovely glow. I still love NARS Gina though!!

....and now to see Ripe Peach in action:

Trying to capture Ripe Peach as it naturally looks on me proved to be a flippin' nightmare, so appreciate the effort I've gone to as I got there in the end! ;-)

I was set on buying Vintage Grape blush, but side to side it looked very similar to MAC Dirty Plum (Pro), which I don't own, but doesn't excite me as a blush shade.

Azalea Blossom surprised me, as I was convinced before stepping foot into the store that it wouldn't suit me and would look ashy on my NC50 skintone. It shows up as a lilac pink, and I don't own a blush like it...and if you're a regular reader of my blog, you know just how many blushes I own! *ahem*

Azalea Blossom applies easier than Ripe Peach but I'm not entirely convinced that it suits me. In a lot of photographs it showed up as chalky and appeared so on the skin if I used too much, so I now I have to be very careful when applying it. Two Virtues mineralize blush would look nice on top in order to bring a bit of depth to the colour.

Here's Azalea Blossom ...

Arrrgh my hand looks like an aliens!

So there you have it, my views on the "must have" Ombre Blushes. What do you think of Spring Colour Forecast as a whole? Did you buy any of the blushes and if so what do you think of them?

Oooh no I think Azalea Blossom looks gorgeous on you! Ripe & Peach is so pretty, and it lasted all day on me yesterday. I'm heavy handed with my blush though so I never have issues with blush not lasting on me lol

Oh, I adore your make up in the top two pictures by the way, what blue is that you're wearing? xx

I just bought Azalea Blossom and Two Virtues yesterday and I absolutely adore them! They are so freakin pretty!!

@Lollipop - Ah thanks. Yeah, I think if I apply it "harder", RP will last longer. We'll see.

I'm wearing Electric Eel on the outer waterline x

@Makeup Kitten - I want Two Virtues, gonna go and grab it tomorrow. Enjoy!

You look gorgeous with both blushes, I used the ripe peach today and found it very pigmented I had to blend blend blend, it lasted on me all day. It must be something to do with skin type or the foundation you used maybe? Not sure :/ x X x

This is one collection I just wasn't bothered about. I'm still not bothered even as I've seen swatches. Nothing at all appeals to me in it so its a clear pass. The Art Supplies collection coming up in April however, that's another story....

I think Ripe Peach looks lovely on you, out of the two I think its prettier x

I'm impressed with your ripe peach swatch! I tried swatching and taking pics last night and it hardly shows up! On my skin its glowy but to capture on camera is near impossible! Well done!

@Mushine - Thanks! Hmmm maybe, though I hardly moved so it wasn't anything to do with my face heating up and adjusting my foundation. Maybe it was there all along but looked invisible once it got dark outide and under artificial light.

@Nangoma - I hear ya. I haven't even looked at Art Supplies yet!

@Charlie - Thank you, I think so too.

@Ally - Tell me about it! I snapped dozens of pics trying to get it right! Utter nightmare LOL

Helllllllllllooooooooooooooo!!

I too got Ripe Peach, I LOVE peachy blushers lol!! Mine seems a lot more orangey yellowy than yours.....I guess they all different. I'm glad I got it.

Damn that NARS gina looks just my sorta colour lol. I love the orgasm blush but its not peachy enough for me. I wonder if deep throat blush would be enough peachyness? I'm loving MAC style at the moment, I've hit pan on that and springsheen!!

Azalea Blossom looks gorgeous on you! I bought all 4 of the blush ombres, I love them. I'm thinking I need to check out NARS Gina eventually, seems like a lovely colour.

I picked up these ones too - love Ripe Peach, have yet to try Azalea Blossom but don't have anything like it so had to have it. I think they both look fab on you.x

I don't think the pigmentation is great either but I love the colour. Thanks for the comparison swatches - Nars Gina is one I must check out!

Oooh! Thankies for the swatches, these are the two I'm thinking of getting. However it's either these or the two blushers from Liberty-London (which are beauties too). Can't decide but can't get all four either. :(

I love Ripe Peach and Azalea Blossom Blush Ombres! They are so amazing! I swatched NARS Gina blush yesterday and it can be a great dupe for Ripe Peach for those who missed out on it or decided to skip Ripe Peach. I also have Vingtage Grape and Springshine. You should definately check both of them out!

Tbh, I dont think the Blush Ombres would be so overhyped if they didnt have that cool gradient - then again if they didnt have that cool gradient they wouldn't even BE blush ombres :P

I've been lemming both the colours you got, but I dont reckon I'll get around to picking them up. I've probably got dupes in my collection too.
