Revlon Colorburst lipsticks + swatches

The new Revlon Colorburst lipstick are now finally in the UK and very nice they are too. Available in 12 shades (there are 20 shade choices in the U.S line) they promise to deliver high-impact colour that feels weightless on the lips.

When brands give their spiel about the latest wonder ingredient in their product, I tend to switch off, but I have to say they live up to the claims Revlon have made. They apply smoothly and hours later, still display great colour - even after eating! The new Elasticolor technology Revlon have implemented in the formula, aims to distribute rich pigment evenly over the lips like a second skin - and they do just that.

The first thing I noticed when I applied one of these to my top lip late last night, was that I didn't even need to apply it to my bottom lip - that never happens when I apply lipstick! EVER! It's always a little patchy and needs a second coat to make it wearable. I simply smacked them together and the colour transferred effortlessly and had distributed itself evenly with no patchiness.

The packaging is simple, yet sleek and combined with the embossed Revlon logo adds a bit of glamour to the offerings on the high street.

So I'm guessing you want to see what they look like on? Good grief, just how long do flippin' lip swatches take?!! I clearly remembered why I stick to my hands today!

Hand swatches taken in natural outdoor daylight:

My MAC lipsticks tend to dry my lips out at times (depending on the finish I use), and almost always give me that disgusting white gunk on my lips after a couple of hours, so I'm forever on 'gunk watch', when I wear them. I'm currently wearing Colorburst in Coral at the moment and have had it on for the past 3+ hours. I've eaten a sandwich and have had a chocolate Frijj milkshake and the colour has stayed put! All I did was smack my lips together when I was done and the finish was as good as new again! No nasty gunk on my inner lip either!

I did swatches of all 5 lipsticks applying a slick of Burts Bees lipsalve in-between each colour and my lips feel fine. There was no dragging as a result of my lips being dried out and the colour continued to apply evenly and easily. These lipsticks are really hydrating and two coats will easily give you full coverage. One coat will still give you a great finish if you don't want a full on colour and they have a lovely glossy finish to them too. No surprise glitter or frost finishes either! I hate it when a colour looks one shade in the tube and on the lips transforms into a duochrome frosty mess!

Furthermore, the packaging is pretty nice too, sleek and chic - there'll be no embarrassment felt pulling this out of your make up bag.

My only gripe is that you may need to be careful not to apply too much pressure when putting them on. I noticed that Coral has somehow scraped the side of the tube and is now sporting a couple of dents in it. I'm hoping it doesn't break altogether with continued usage. They don't feel overly soft - maybe it's the warm weather that's had an effect on this one, I dunno - it's something to keep an eye out for though.

Check these out when you get the chance as these are the best high street lipsticks I've tried to date. I believe Revlon are on 3 for 2 at Boots at the moment.

ETA: I should add that my natural lip colour is straight up fleshy pink, so depending on your own lip colour, there may be variations in how pigmented the different shades show up on you in comparison to how they look on me in my pictures (bloody hell, that was a long sentence!).

How much are they? £7.99
Where can I buy them from? Boots, Superdrug

Lovely post hun! I picked up three yesterday in coral, true red and crimson. I'm yet to pick up plum, fuschia and carnation.

So far, I'm impressed with them. They're very pigmented and surprisingly not drying. I agree with MAC lippies being drying though.

Anyway, I really like these. My only gripe is the fact that when i opened it (after all the plastic wrap). Two of them looked scraped on the side of the bullet and almost seem as though they were stuck on with fingers. Basically scuffs on the lippies, not impressed with that =(. But I don't know how that happened because they were all wrapped up in plastic. Anyway, i still like them - I want to own them all xD. hehe.

@Legseleven7 - I think you'll like these :-)

@Get Gawjus - Likewise! I like lipsticks but especially in this warmer, drier weather, that vile white gunk shows up even more. I think you'll like these.

@Linda Phuong Tan - Glad you're liking the ones you have so far. Hmm that's odd, sounds like you got a dodgy one. I'd feel compelled to take it back for an exchange.

@Sarah - Hope you like them as much as I do

@Rhamnousia Indeed you did!! LOL

@Anthea - For the price and quality, they'll make good additions to your collection.

@ModestyBrown - Def check them out. Thanks hon x

@Rocaille - You're welcome. I'll def be wearing Plum once Summer's over.

@Nooberella - Probably the difference in our lip colour x

@Stephanie - You know you want to .. LOL

@Sara - You're welcome!

@The Postcolonial Rabbit - Go and look at them again :-)

@Laura - Yeah, it's niiice!

@The Beauty Bite - Thank you. I was surprised at how wearable that red is too. I tend to be scared of reds!

@Miss Jones 85 - Thank you. Just Burt Bees honey lipbalm in the tube.

thanks for taking the time to do the swatch! I've uploaded this to BeautySwatch & linked to your fabulous review. I also don't like MAC lipsticks much, but the 'Dressmaker' one from the Pret-a-papier has no gunk, haha.

@akisa - No probs. I was about to email you the link for Beauty Swatch, you beat me to it LOL Ahh I didn't get a lippie from Pret a Papier - just my luck!

I have Lilac 001 from the US range. It dented the very first hour I got it. It broke the second day I had it. Such a shame, it's a gorgeous color! ;/
