At first glance the new mascara by Bourjois, Volumizer, looks like an ordinary mascara but you'll soon realise that this comes with a mascara wand with a difference. Remember when we were dazzled by the dual-ended wands which hit the market a few years ago? Well Bourjois did pretty well with their Coup de theatre 2 in 1 way (although it didn't do much for me), and they've since decided to step things up a notch in the mascara world.
Bourjois claim that Volumizer will give your lashes 11 times more volume, a promise which initially fell on deaf ears having heard similar claims and being left disappointed from a number of other brands all too many times before.
Volumizer has two openings, two lids and one brush - confused? No need to be.
Volumizer works in two steps:
STEP ONE: Separates and define lashes. The brush is lightly loaded with just the right amount of product to coat lashes. For a natural volume look Step One is all you need.
STEP TWO: By adding step 2 after step 1, the “transformable” brush coats lashes and boosts their appearance significantly. With 11 times more volume, the effect I think, is pretty impressive!
Right, I'm gonna get straight to the point. I LOVE the effect this mascara gives. Look at my lashes damnit!!
No mascara - nekkid eye lashes!

Step One gives a very natural look, but is pretty blah in my opinion, I have other 'daytime' mascaras that I'd reach for over Step One. It applies easily with no clumping at all and it separated my lashes reasonably well. However, I find the wand for Step One a bit flimsy, almost spring like as it's so thin. If you want to wear it on its own, that's fine, but if you want to add Step Two on top, then work quickly as you don't want it to dry before you get a chance to apply it.
As for Step Two? Wow ..! I love the 'dolly' effect Volumizer gives to my lashes, it's bananas (must stop watching Rachel Zoe)! I almost think it's a but much for the office, as all you can see are my lashes! I'll road test it and see how many comments I get tomorrow. This mascara really shows off the growth gained during my stint using RapidLash and I love it!
However, it's not all a bed of roses and I do have one complaint. Because the brushes are pulled out either side of the tube, Step Two has a larger opening, and so the wand is covered in lots of excess mascara and is very wet with product when you pull it out - imagine L'Oreal Voluminous on crack and you'll get my drift!
I tried to wipe the excess back into the tube, but suffered slight clumping as a result when I applied Step Two. To be honest, that's my only complaint, but it will affect the application each and every time I use it, unless I have a tissue on hand to wipe the excess off. I tried using a metal lash comb afterwards and to be honest it didn't do very much in the way of separating my lashes at all (so that was a waste of money)!
With that being said, I'll spend my money on this when my tube dries up. I have over 15 mascaras (excessive much) and not one of them gives me the volume that Bourjois Volumizer does, so that deserves a repurchase in my book! It's quite pricey for a high street mascara, retailing at £9.99, but is currently on offer at Boots for £7.99
There, I'm done. Who knew I could talk so much about a mascara!
How much is it? £9.99
Where can I buy it? Boots, Superdrug, Asos.com
