Pucker Up: Lip Balm Road Test

Whilst I'm confident we're all protecting our faces with rich, soothing moisturisers in this chilly weather, let's not forget that our smackers need some attention too - especially if you plan to proceed with some lip action once the clock strikes 12 on New Years Eve!

I've been road testing a number of lip balms lately. keep reading to see what I think of them.

1. Burts Bees lipbalm in Mango Butter - £3.49
A new flavour launched earlier this year, this fruity scented chapstick, does a good job of keeping lips supple. I find it less greasy than the Acai Berry version it was released with and the tube packaging is both practical and easy to use. I've been using this the longest out of the balms tested in this post and have used both the Honey and Original versions with no problem in the past. Available from Boots, John Lewis and independent stores.

2. Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine - £6.00
This buttery pink balm (which leaves the lightest of tints on the lips - which is bareky visible on my own lips), is rich and smells of toffee! The combo of shea butter and rice provides great hydration for chapped lips. I definitely prefer this over the Mango lip butter I tried over a year ago. The pot it comes in will prove tiresome for those with long nails as you work your way through it though. I wish this came in a tube. Available from Zuneta.com, Liberty and Selfridges.

3. Malin + Goetz Lip Moisturiser - £9.00
I'm memorised by the formula of this fragrance free, clear gel. It slicks on SO smoothly. I love the way this feels on my lips. Its fatty acids penetrate on impact and are not easily wiped away or licked off, unlike the traditional oils found in lip balms. It really does act like a barrier against the elements too. Great product, and although on the pricier side, a teeny bit goes a very long way. This gets a big thumbs up from me. It also comes in a new Mojito flavour - bring it on! Available from Zuneta.com

 4. Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner - £2.09
Another favourite. A combination of Aloe Vera, Olive and Grape Seed Oil leaves my lips feeling cool and refreshed. The perfect base for my lipsticks too, which adhere to it extremely well. I really like the texture of this which ensures my lips stay moisturised and soft to the touch. I'll definitely repurchase this but annoyingly it comes in a pot, so whenever I have falsies on, I have to reach for something else. Available from Boots and Superdrug

5. Jurlique Rose Lip Balm- £10.00
This dinky little balm, comes in a pretty tin, which is quite wide in circumference (making usage a little easier for those with long nails) and has a subtle rose scent. It's also a multi purpose product, so can be used on hands, elbows and knees. However once this went on my lips, it stayed on my lips for the sake of hygiene, since it's not in a tube. A lot of love's gone into this and it includes a mix of olive & safflower oil as well as chamomile, sweet violet and marshmallow! However, considering the price I expected to be blown away and sadly I wasn't. Available from Selfridges and Space NK

Have you tried any of these and what are your fave lip balms?

Other lip balms to check out out: Carmex, Blistex Relief Cream, EOS Lip Balm Sphere and Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm.

I got given an Avon lipbalm for Christmas and I'm really impressed with it - I thought it would be a bit rubbish as it just looked like one of those cheapo ones but I'm really impressed with how moisturising it it :-)

I love Korres Jasmine lip butter. I also like the sound of the Malin + Goetz one but more lip balm really is the last thing I need right now!

I've got Korres Jasmine and I hate it, it just sits on top of my lips and doesn't really moisturise deep down. Hmmm.

I love the Korres Lip Butters, I have the Jasmine, Pomegranate and Guava ones and they always keep my lips feeling soft and smooth. Best lip balm I've ever tried is still By Terry Baume De Rose though xxx

I've been using the original Jurlique love balm and I have to agree it's not that amazing as a lip balm but I've used it on the dry bits on my face/nose when I've had a cold and it works really well.
