State Of Emergency - Talon SOS!

Thursday, December 30, 2010

I took my acrylics off today after having them on for a couple of months. My nails are so damaged, more so than usual, but I only have myself to blame.

Just in time for the New Year, I've decided to revert back to being 'au natural' and really try and grow my nails nice and strong over the next three months. My nails are currently paper thin, bendy, and full of ridges and dents due to the assortment of drills I've had moonwalk all over my nails beds. I did however have a full manicure this evening to kickstart their transformation - so at least my cuticles are looking fly, even if I do have stumps for nails!

So anyway, there's light at the end of the tunnel and I've rummaged through my 'nail care drawer' and pulled every item I own in an attempt to blitz my talons with some much needed TLC.

 (L-R)

1. Mavala Scientifique Penetrating Nail Hardener
2. Mavala Mavaderma
3. Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle
4. Sally Hansen Thicken Up!
5. Sally Hansen Hard As Nails
6. Essie Protein Base Coat
7. OPI Maintenance Nail Envy

I know for a fact that Mavala Scientifique definitely works, and priced just £5.50 at Boots it's affordable. The only item that's missing from this family photo is Renunail, which I spilt all over my window sill a few mths ago (this year alone at least 5 polishes have suffered the same fate - but on the carpet!), and Mavala Nailactan which I forgot to pull from my travel bag - sorry, but I can't be bothered to take the picture again but you can spot it in my Reunail post.

I've taken pics of my nails tonight to compare alongside their condition in a few weeks time, so I'll share photos when I do an update post. I guess you could say this is one of my Beauty Resolutions - to get my nails in better shape, but I'm not gonna kid myself and declare that I'll curb my spending on all things superficial in 2011cos that resolution proved to be an absolute J.O.K.E throughout 2010!!

The one product I definitely recommend is solar oil, slap that shizzle on 3 times a day. If you get it from ebay you can get a little pot for a few quid and it lasts very well. Also another idea would be to get just a thin layer of calgel or bio sculpture painted over your nail. They don't have to file or buff your own nail they just paint it on. Your solar oil will still penetrate the gel (don't ask me how it's too complicated for my brain but you can google it)and your nails will be a bit stronger and be able to grow out. Sorry this is the longest comment in humanity, I just had the same problem ages ago and wish that someone had told me about these products! Hope it helps x

Nail Envy and Solar Oil/Avoplex really work for me.

I used to love wearing acrylics, but hated the fact that they were basically a life commitment! I tried the press ons, but they don't work on me :(
I totally agree with the solar oil. Every time I get into using it regulary (a few times a day), I can totally tell a difference in my nails.

Don't even get me started on my nails. Thanks to the horrendous winter they are currently R.I.P no matter what I do to them :o( sad times.

Girl I'm with you on getting them au natural long and enviously strong.

I heard that the OPI nail envy was a good buy.

100% agree with Sarah - CND Solar Oil applied every day! This has helped a lot of people I've come across that suffer from split/weak nails especially in winter! You can also get Gelish applied with Structure Gel which will give your natural nails extra strength. It's not thick and you can choose to not have a colour, just the shiny top coat (you can still put normal nail polish on top, just remove with non-acetone remover & Gelish remains in tact). And as Sarah says, Solar Oil will still penetrate your natural nail.

Nail Envy is a good treatment to get your natural nails back to their usual strength :-)

Look forward to seeing your before & after!
