Lush sugar lip scrub?

I bought this weeks ago and have only used it once. I can't carry it out and about with me for fear of looking like I've dipped my lips in a bowl of sugar and I don't use it any other time as my lips aren't dry and even if they do feel minutely parched, then a dunk whilst under the shower revitalises them or a slick of my trusty Burts Bees chapstick does the trick.

Its ingredients of sugar, jojoba oil, colouring and artificial flavour is a concoction I could have made up myself, so I fool a tad foolish for wastiuing my money on this.
The only thing I like is the Bubblegarm scent I chose. Can I have my £4.50 back please and a slap for getting caught up in the hype after reading a couple of reviews?

I'll be chucking this my Mum's way but even she'll wanna know why I bought flavoured sugar to begin with!

Review: MeMeMe Drama Queen mascara

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

I'm not gonna lie, I can be a bit of a make up snob at times and every time I'm in Superdrug I walk straight past the MeMeMe stand without so much as stopping to look at the products on display.

I was sent this to try months ago and didn't really hold out much hope for it. However, this has left me pleasantly surprised so I thought it deserved a mention.

I like the packaging, the sleek metallic pink tube looks feminine without looking too infantile. I'm not a fan of cosmetics that look overly girly, I find those to be direct a turn off.

Drama Queen is described as a "High impact, ultra glossy, volu-lift mascara" with a "new flexible 3D brush" which "separates and sculpts lashes to deliver show stopping glamour". Sounds good huh?

I don't like the flexibility of the brush and feel as if I'm bouncing on a trampoline as I try to apply my mascara. Regardless of whether this is a new, innovative feature, I prefer a steady hand when applying mascara - who doesn't? That aside, when if you master the art of applying this without poking your eye out, the end results are pretty impressive!

Look how beautifully it separated my lashes!

It stays relatively smudge-proof and doesn't pull too much product out onto the wand when applied either. If it wasn't for the issues I have with the brush, then I'd probably repurchase this. You may find you get along with it better than I did though.

Price: £7.99

7 products I'd like to try in 2010 revisited

Sunday, March 28, 2010

At the start of the year I jotted this post down, highlighting products that I'd like to try in 2010. Out of the 7 products I listed, I've obtained and tried 5 so far.

I still want to try Illamasqua Rich Foundation and LiLash, although the price of LiLash and its possible side effects are making me stall.

I have to say the biggest product let down for me so far has been NARS Illuminator. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and almost wet myself when it was given to me at the NARS Trends presentation earlier in the year but alas, it just didn't perform how I'd visualised it would.

On the other hand I really like No 7 Protect & Perfect beauty serum which makes my skin feel smooth under my make up and obviously Mega-Tek for the growth spurt that it's given my hair. RMK Recovery Gel is another fave of mine - read my review on that here.

I know quite a few beauty bloggers posted their 'product wants' at the start of the year and I was wondering how many from your list you had tried. Have any wowed you or left you feeling disappointed?

SATC 2 Movie Package in NYC!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Are you the ultimate SATC fan? Are you counting down the days until the release of the SATC movie sequel? More importantly will you happen to be in New York City on May 28th - the release date for SATC 2? If you don't fancy camping outside the cinema all day in the hope of catching a glimpse of the most famous female quartet in New York, this may tickle your fancy instead.

On Friday, May 28, On Location Tours will be offering a Sex and the City Movie Package that includes the famous Sex and the City Hotspots Tour, dinner, a ticket to SATC2, and admission to a nightclub, all for one low price.  The nine-hour+ day will be led by actresses and stand-up comediennes who share inside industry information and will allow fans to follow in the footsteps of Carrie and Company.

The tour of Sex and the City Hotspots incorporates more than 40 locations from the movie and the TV show including the shop where Charlotte bought her "Rabbit,” the trendy Meatpacking District, and a stop to drink a cosmopolitan at the bar owned by Aidan. It’s the perfect mix of shopping, drinking, and sightseeing in the hip neighborhoods of New York City.  There are also locations from Sex and the City: The Movie interspersed in the tour.

The package costs $179 per ticket and departs at 2pm in front of Pulitzer Fountain on Fifth Avenue.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit http://www.screentours.com/satc-movie-package or call 001 (U.S dialling code) 212-209-3370.

On Location Tours is the same company my friend and I booked our SATC bus tour with two summers ago and we had a ball. Amongst the highlights were cupcakes galore, cosmos at Aidan and Steve's bar and viewing the palace itself - Carrie's apartment. It all made for a very exciteable afternoon in the midst of New York's heatwave!

I can personally vouch for how professional and accomodating On Location Tours are, as in our excitement to get to the bus stop on time where the tour bus picked us up, we left our tickets in my friends hotel room!! Seriously, you couldn't make it up! Heart failure just doesn't sum up how my body reacted when I realised we didn't have the tickets!

After turning the air blue with enough expletives to make Khloe Kardashian look like Snow White, we were able to call their office, give our names and luckily get seats on one of the bus tours scheduled a little later that day, which wasn't fully sold out. We were really in a wild panic but Location Tours sorted everything out for us.

If you have an upcoming trip to New York planned, the day off or just want to have a fun day out with your friends, I think this is a fab package which will make the day of any SATC fan - a SATC tour, dinner, ticket to see the film and a night out all on the release date! Yeah baby!

Just for the hell of it, here's the SATC 2 movie trailer to get you hyped all over again. I can't WAIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!

Review: Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

Saturday, March 27, 2010

What it says on the Revlon website: Revlon PhotoReady™ Makeup - for poreless, airbrushed skin in any light. Photochromatic pigments bend and reflect light to erase every flaw. Complete, yet undetectable coverage. Soft, luminous finish, Oil free. Fragrance fee. SPF20.

I use Revlon Colorstay in Caramel most days so was looking forward to trying PhotoReady due to all the hype my blogging family overseas had given it. Unfortunately Revlon haven't released the PhotoReady shades in the same order as Colorstay and I had trouble working out which shade I would be.

I had given up hope of being able to use it when it was suggested I try mixing both Caramel and Cappuccino to customise my foundation shade. I was reluctant it would work, but had nothing to lose so thought what the hell. Amazingly I was momentarily silenced, as indeed when mixed, they created a perfect match for me which was a turn up for the books as I really didn't think I had a hope in hell of being able to wear PhotoReady.

I'm very pleased with the coverage which I find to be medium, yet buildable. I choose not to build it up though and just add concealer where needed. Texture wise it's not as thick as Colorstay and feels light on the skin. I didn't have a problem with Colorstay feeling heavy, but have noticed that PhotoReady needs less work with my foundation brush when I'm blending it in. The finish on my skin is dewy, but not overly in my opnion. It gives a soft, luminous effect.

I like the pump bottle which makes usage easy and convenient. The pump releases the right amount of pressure so you don't get an overload of product on the back of your hand, brush or palette when using it either.

I've read various comments complaining about the glitter finish this foundation gives. It's a problem I'm yet to experience as I don't find that my face twinkles back at me when I look in the mirror or when it's hit by sunlight. I applied some to my hand and held it in direct sunlight and could see the faintest, teeniest, weeniest shimmer, and even then I was really squinting to see it so it's not asn issue for me. I wear this for both daytime and evening use and don't have a preference for when it's worn. I think it's quite versatile actually.

Sorry there's no swatch of the foundation - I'm not wasting it! Use Google.

Whilst I'm glad that I've found a way I can now use PhotoReady, I'm not happy that in order to do so, I have to fork out double for two bottles for the privilege. It's a high street brand and I should be paying high st prices not in excess of £24 when the RRP is £12.99. I accept that it's unlikely Revlon will adjust the shades in the PhotoReady range to mirror those of Colorstay but I refuse to pay double when everybody else gets to hand over £12.99. Get outta here!

I fully appreciate that a lot of black and asian women darker than myself won't be able to use PhotoReady at all as the shades available do not cater to them. If Revlon are gonna use Halle Berry as a brand ambassador (I dare you to use the likes of Mary J Blige, Gabrielle Union or Nia Long next time instead of the 'safe' option), in an attempt to show how diverse their products are, then surely it can't be that hard to create foundation shades that will actually benefit the women they're trying to reach out to.

Note to the boyf, if you're reading this - buy me copious backups in Revlon PhotoReady in Caramel and Cappuccino forever please, because Revlon are trying to rob me blind me here. Thank you! Over and out.

How much is it? £12.99

I really wanna try ...Make Up For Ever HD blush

Thursday, March 25, 2010

You all know what a blush freak I am and the new MUFE HD blushes are on my radar, despite originally turning my nose up at their launch a few wks ago! These cream blushes feature mattifying and reflecting powders and a second-skin texture for a soft focus finish. Paraben free and with 14 shades to choose from, I'm spoilt for choice!

Priced at $25 each, which is currently approx £17 (not cheap, I know), they come in a 10ml pump bottle (so quite small), but I hear they'll last forever as you need the teeniest amount to give you cheeks a gorgeous glow.

I'm keen to hear if you've tried these yet. Do I need at least one in my life? Lemme know!

Wahanda - quite possibly home to the best beauty bargains EVER!

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Wahanda. I frickin' love this website.

My love for this company began at  Christmas I signed up to the Wahanda Advent Calender daily competition, clicking like a madwoman on the virtual calender, leading up to Christmas in the hope that I'd win one of the fab daily spa break prizes they were giving away. I didn't win, but I didn't losen as no sooner was the competition over, daily MobDeals began to appear in my inbox a couple of weeks later.

Wahanda regotiate huge discounts with top spas, salons and studios to offer a fab MobDeal every day from Monday to Friday. The MobDeal is open to everyone but only available for 24 hours and valid if enough people snap it up (hence the 'mob' aspect of it) - so you need to be quick! They're available in London, Birmingham and Manachester and you can check out which MobDeal is currently live in which city here.

On Tuesday, I bought the MobDeal on offer which was a 45 minute luxury manicure at Puro Lifestyle Salon & Spa   fro £10 (worth £30). Bargain!

Today's MobDeal in London is £100 worth of treatments for £30 at Nougat Spa in London which is a whopping 70% off. MobDeals make great gifts too and are typically valid between 3-12 months, giving you plenty of time to use them.

If you haven't already signed up to the Wahanda newletter in order to receive these daily bundles of beauty joy in your inbox then you're a loser (just kidding), but you'll feel like one when you realise what you're missing out on.

So what are you waiting for? Get involved! You can follow Wahanda on Twitter here.

New! The Body Shop Sweet Lemon range.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

I attended an event hosted by The Body Shop a few weeks ago (Hmm I must get round to sharing the details of that), and I had a chance to preview the new Sweet Lemon range which is new for Spring and now in stores and online. If you like your scents fresh and zingy, then you this may be right up your street.

The line includes a body butter, shower gel, whip body lotion, body scrub and lip butter. Check it out in all its glory here on The Body Shop website.

I've been using the shower gel and whip body lotion and feel it's time to share a few thoughts on their performance. The shower gel is love. I adore it and will certainly be repurchasing it as my bottle is almost used up. Containing lemon seed oil and Community Trade honey for its moisturising properties, I find it fresh and sharp. It lathers well and I love the lemony scent it builds up in my shower. It really wakes me up after use, which isn't easy first thing in the morning!

The whip body lotion I'm not so keen on as I find it too light for this time of year, certainly for me anyway. In hotter weather I'd possibly use it to see if it has a cooling effect, bugt I'm still doubtful that it will keep me moisturised all day. The lemon scent in the body lotion is light and wears off fairly quickly. Personally I'm not too fussed about that as I don't like to smell of anything that may attract insects to me in Summer anyway!

It contains Brazil nut oil which gives it a slight nutty undertone but I much prefer the richness of the body butter which I liked a lot when I tried it. For now, the body whip lotion doubles up as a hand cream until the weather heats up!

Have you tried anything in the Sweet Lemon range yet?

Mega Tek Challenge - 2 months on

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Apologies that I've taken so long to update you with my progress using Mega Tek. I was really strapped for time, the boyf came over to visit, my PC packed up, and well, you know the rest! If you remember, I started to use Mega Tek back in January, January 22nd to be exact. Mega Tek is a protein treatment originally used on horses to strengthen and maintain their coats. It has been proven to work on human hair too. I bought it from here.

Two months on and I haven't turned into a horse, nor have I started to neigh. My hair has grown but my usage tailed off after two weeks and was quite irregular ranging from 3-4 times a week to once and then back to 3-4. Sometimes I forgot to use it at all! My hair has still grown despite not sticking to a rigid regime.

I decided not to use Mega Tek alone directly on my scalp and after much research on various haircare forums, decided to mix it with Vatika Coconut Oil, and store the mixture in a plastic spray bottle. I purchased the Vatika Oil from my local afro haircare shop and it cost a mere £2.99. It's a popular brand of coconut oil said to promote thickening of the hair. It also dilutes the Mega Tek as too much protein can prove harmful for the hair if applied recklessly. I diluted it as a preventative measure as I was unsure of how my hair would react to this new product.

Review: Palmers Skin Therapy Oil

Monday, March 22, 2010

What it says on the bottle: Palmers Cocoa Butter formula Skin Therapy Oil is an advanced multi-purpose skin perfection product that can be used all over the body, including face. This preservative free, lightweight formula contains an exclusive blend of key ingredients for scars, stretch marks, dry, damaged skin, uneven skin tone, aging skin and fine lines and wrinkles.

Palmers. A familiar name in my childhood household where Palmers Cocoa Butter was the body moisturiser of choice during my youth. I have vivid memories of being slathered in Palmers Cocoa Butter from an early age by Mama Vex and as a result I'm not the biggest fan of the distinctive confectionary scent of Palmers products.

These days my usual choice of body moisturiser tends to come from either The Body Shop or Boots Extracts. I've been using these body butters for so long, that I've fallen behind with Palmers product releases but when I saw this, it instantly appealed to me as their reputation for good body products sits well with me.

Palmers Skin Therapy Oil makes a great alternative if you find its butter or lotions too heavy. I find it keeps my skin feeling incredibly soft and supple and being a dry oil, my skin absorbs it quickly and isn't left oily after use, so getting dressed straightaway isn't a problem. It's also suitable for use on the face, but I prefer to use other products for my facial skincare routine.

Review: Amie Bright Eyes Very Gentle Eye Make-up Remover

Monday, March 22, 2010

What it says on the bottle: Amie's gentle formulas are your skin's best friend: bursting with natural plant extracts that work in complete harmony with your skin to help keep it clear and radiant, they are completely free from parabens, sulpahates, mineral oils, GMO or animal extracts.

Bright Eyes Very Gentle Eye Make-up Remover contains natural amino acid based cleansers to remove make-up effortlessly and gently without stinging or irritating the delicate eye area. Meadow cornflower soothes and decongests, grape water cleanses while cucumber hydrates, cools and refreshes. 100% oil-free to ensure a non-greasey after-feel. Dermatologically tested, pH-balanced.

My usual eye make up remover of choice ran out a couple of weeks ago, so I turned to an alternative I had stashed away that I'd been given for review purposes back in January.

Amie Bright Eyes Very Gentle eye makeup remover is part of the new Amie skincare line, created by ex-Estée Lauder marketing executive, Fiona Parkhouse who was inspired by her daughters struggle to find effective, affordable skincare, free from the harsh, aggressive chemicals that can be typically found in 'teen' skincare.

New CID Cosmetics

Sunday, March 21, 2010

I first heard of this brand last year, I think I must have seen it mentioned in a magazine at some point, as when I was given a double ended liner, (which broke before I had a chance to use it!) it rang a bell. I then discovered (through Miss Virtue) that they had a counter in Debenhams, Oxford Street which has been there since last July.

New CID Cosmetics are still relatively new, having emerged on the scene in 2007 but they have quite a few counters dotted around the country which you can view in full here.

I've since acquired i-bronze in Rio, which is a compact powder bronzer with mirror. The packaging is made up of sturdy white casing with silver lettering. I think it's best kept in a handbag rather than in a make up bag where it's likely to get grubby quite easily.

It bemused me somewhat, when this was sold to me as being 'brand new on the market'. It's not. The baked mineralize powder has been done by MAC, Revlon, Prestige and Go Cosmetics off the top of my head. However I smiled politely as it was stressed how "new" this baked powder was in the cosmetics world.

The i-bronze is a lovely blend of pink, bronze, gold and peach tones. It applies really well and gives a soft sheen to my face, gliding over my skin evenly and smoothly. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a bronzer, but I'm pleasantly surprised at the softening effect it gives. It's light enough in shade to suit a range of skin tones and >id obviously agreed with me as they've only released it in one shade.

Coming soon: Cover Girl LashBlast Fusion

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Cover Girl have had immense success with their LashBlast range of mascaras and will soon be launching the latest addition to the LashBlast family. Step forward LastBlast Fusion, which promises to deliver both volume and length.

I like the look of the brush already!

LashBlast Fusion hits shelves in April for $8.99 but you can currently pre-order it online if you can't wait, by visiting Cover Girls Facebook page here and ordering it through one of the mentioned retailers. Free shipping (postage) is also included.

I haven't tried LashBlast and stopped myself from picking it up about a year ago when I was visiting the beau, as I'd already spent an obscene amount on cosmetics, but I'll be certainly be trying this out.

Are you a LashBlast fan?

I love it!

Over to you if you want to add this to your blogs. It's been doing the rounds for the past few weeks.

Beyonce turns up the Heat!

Sunday, March 21, 2010

In case you didn't know, Beyonce launched her first perfume in February and it's been revealed that in one month, it's already accumulated $3 million in sales - 72,000 bottles were sold in an hour (really?!!) during an in-store appearance by "Honey B" herself in Macys Herald Square, NYC.

Heat  is a mix of magnolia, neroli and blush peach scents and set you back $40-$60. Does this mean that when I'm next in New York, everybody's gonna be wearing this?!! How were 72,000 bottles sold in a hour? Was every till in Macys, on all ten floors selling it or something?!

I thought Beyonce said she was gonna sit her ass down in 2010? So much for her taking a 6 month break, homegirl's not going anywhere! I've already seen her far more than I'd like to over the past week, thanks to Lady Gaga (you should have had Gwen Stefani in your video instead, but I still love ya!).

No seriously, why has she sold so many bottles of this perfume? Does it smell that good? From what I can gather it's a Macys exclusive and for the timebeing won't be sold elsewhere, so you can't have a sniff in Tesco next week.

Somebody reading this must have bought or smelt it, what's all the fuss about? Fill me in!

Cynicism aside, those sales figures are pretty damn impressive and I'm sure Beyonce didn't think it would be that successful. She needs to release a range of front lace wigs - she'd sell 2 million in an hour!

Not long to go now ...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

'Ello, 'ello, 'ello!  My PC drama is almost over for good (thanks for the suggestions on how to fix it, but it really is on its last legs. It's lasted a good 8 years, so I can't complain) as I have a new laptop on the way and blogging as I know it, should hopefully resume back to normal by the weekend.

I have so much to write about (and I'm not talking about the latest Sleek palette or MAC Gaga lipstick either) and I can finally catch up on the 200+ blogs I follow! I haven't been able to reply to your comments on my posts in as much detail as I usually do either, which has irritated me, but my hands were tied.

Hello to the new followers I've gained! Thanks for the love!!

MAC Too Fabulous

Friday, March 12, 2010

I had a look at MAC Too Fabulous the other day and personally thought it blew Spring Colour Forecast out of the water. The new Cremesheen lipgloss shades have now been introduced as permanent so I can take my time with those and check out the new shades at my leisure. I did however, ooh and ahh at the new mineralize blushes that have been released (six in total).

Gorgeous promo image!
I chose Two Virtues and Chic Couple to come home with me.  Two Virtues looks very similar to Azalea Blossom on my hand, with the exception of the shimmer in it. It shows up as a cool tone frosty medium pink, with violet purple. The purple doesn't show up as as intense as I'd like, but when swirled together it's bea-yoot-iful on my NC50 skintone.

My justification for its purchase is that I can use Two Virtues on top of Azalea Blossom to make it even better! Sometimes I surprise myself with my rational thinking! Chic Couple is a peachy copper with neutral brown and when swirled together shows up as a bronzey brown with coral undertones and gold shimmer. Love it!

MAC have also released 6 new lipliner shades. Now I'm don't really tend to splash out on lipliners unless it's a pretty nice shade, as I think you can get perfectly good ones from cheaper lines and I cleaned up on the NYX ones last year during their anniversary 50% off sale so have loads. However, on this occasion I did pick up Mouth Off as I've been after a soft coral liner for the longest time and have been unable to find one. Obviously there were a number of woman in London who felt as I did, as this particular shade was running very low on stock at the time of purchase in the Pro store.

Sorry, but I was unable to do any swatches as my PC is still crashing every 2 mins and I got so pissed off, I lost all patience trying to upload the pics. There are more than enough swatches on the net if you pop the shade names into Google though. Hopefully I should be getting a new laptop next weekend. I have so many posts sitting in my drafts, it's ridic!!

What are your thoughts on Too Fabulous and what did you buy (if anything)?

So when I wore Ripe Peach on Saturday, the blue skies and beaming sunshine (although it was still quite cold), inspired me to do something different with my eye make up for a change. I'm not usually one for wearing multiple colours on my eyes but that's exactly what I ended up doing!

MAC Spring Colour Forecast + Ombre Blush swatches

Sunday, March 07, 2010

So finally, MAC Spring Colour Forecast is here in the UK, and I wasn't particularly bowled over when I went to view it on Thursday. I came away with two of the Ombre blushes but nothing else caught my eye from the collection. For those building up your stash, I'm sure you may find it more appealing but I have dupes of so many of the items, that anything else I had bought, would have been a waste of money.

When I swatched Ripe Peach instore, I made sure I went outside to see how it looked in natural daylight and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a matte peach, it has a smoother finish and a subtle gold shimmer to it.

Do NOT get me started ...Chanel temporary tattoos

Sunday, March 07, 2010

So they're finally here. Chanel's temporary tattoos ...and hell will freeze over before you catch me wearing them.

Sorry, I'm not a fan. I'm not that desperate to own a bit of Chanel that I'd waste £49 on these ill drawn monstrosities. I'd rather put the money towards a Chanel 2.55.

If I see anybody in London wearing these, chances are I'll assume you got them from the bargain bucket in Claires Accessories, so any efforts to be noticed would have been wasted. I can already visualise counterfeit listings popping up all Ebay by the time I've finished typing this post.

Coco Chanel must be turning in her grave. Temporary stick on tats do not spell out couture to me. In fact I think they look rather tacky and will have you labelled as a fashion victim as opposed to being "on trend".

Ok, so they worked on the catwalk, but if you ask me they should have been left there. Oh and what's this I hear about one of the tattoos being a pair of dangly earrings??! Just where exactly are you supposed to stick that one?!

Don't bother to ask me any questions about them as I don't know, don't care and certainly won't WEAR!

So come on, I know you have something to say! What do you think? Do you rate 'em or hate 'em? Don't worry if you've *shudder*  bought them or think they're "amazing", I'll still publish your comment ;-)

Spot On!

Sunday, March 07, 2010

My skin is far from perfect. Ok, there's been a vast improvement since my teenage years but I still get the occasional spot or blemish. I'll never have perfect skin and that's cool, I accepted that a long time ago as it could be far worse than it is. I haven't really used any specific products for spots, well actually I have, I used to use Clinique Anti Blemish Gel but didn't really get the results that it promised so I soon ditched that.

I first came across Murad Acne Spot Treatment when a representative in Boots was giving a demonstration at Christmas. She gave me a sample and some information about the brand and its products but I didn't give it another thought, until I got a spot a week later. I dabbed a teeny bit of the lotion on the offender that had sprouted on my chin, went to bed and woke up to find it had literally vanished overnight. I was amazed!

Now I don't suffer from acne, but this spot treatment, does the trick for any random pimples that I do get. I've used it about 8 times and the tube looks untouched, so lord knows how long a full size 15ml tube would last me. It doesn't make all my spots disappear overnight, but at the very most any spots that pop up are gone within 48 hours.

I'm very impressed with this product and it goes to show just how important it is for brands to have samples available in order for the customer to 'try before they buy'. Had the saleswoman tried to persuade me to buy it without having the chance to to test it for myself beforehand, I'd never have purchased it. Now that I've trialled it and seen the results for myself, I have no qualms about buying it when my sample eventually runs out.

Have you tried any Murad products? Which product(s) do you reach for when you skin starts acting up?

** Please note that as with all my reviews, what works for me, may not necessarily work for you**
