Shu Uemura Masterclas with Mei Rees + Color Atelier

Sunday, July 22, 2012

On Thursday evening, I attended a very intimate (five of us were in attendance) masterclass with Mei Rees, senior make up artist for Shu Uemera, which took place in their store on Neal Street, Covent Garden.

Mei talked us through the five different textures of Shu Uemura Pressed Eyeshadows and introduced us to their Color Atelier custom palette design.

The Shu Uemura Pressed Eyeshadows are available in five finishes:  Matte (M), Pearl (P), Iridescent (IR), Metallic (ME) and Glitters (G) and are designed for layering as well as being suitable to wear on their own. The blushes, which also fit into the custom palettes are available in a matte or pearl finish.

Mei used a Shu Uemura gel liner as a base, layered with eye shadow to create a mermaid inspired look finished off with eyelash curling from their iconic gold curlers and best selling corner lashes. If you've ever wondered how to pull off glitter or shimmer eye shadow, Mei suggests you just dab it on the centre of the lid. This will open your lids up and frame your eyes without being overwhelming. Also, if wearing glitter on the eye, try teaming it with a matte lip - unless you want to pay homage to a disco ball.

Color Atelier also gives you the opportunity to create your own palette! You purchase a empty palette priced between £4-£10 and then then create your own palette consisting of two blushes,  four shadows, two shadows and a blush, which sell for £11-£16. The refills come in pans and all you do is slip them into the pallette and slide the tray in. Easy peasy!

I opted for four shadows as I own more than enough blush and don't own any shadows from Shu Uemera, having only had experience with their lipsticks in the post (I'll do a post on the ones I bought a few mths ago).

In hindsight I think I should have chosen a dark brown or navy blue instead of the purple shadow, so I'll be gracing a Shu counter shortly to buy another refill.

Have you tried any Shu Uemura products? And what do you think of the custom palettes? Check them out here online.

You can also find Shu Uemura at Space NK, Selfridges, and House of Fraser.
