Want it, Need it - Samsung Galaxy III (S3)

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

I've not had much luck with mobile phones of late, Within the past few months, I've accidentally thrown my phone in the bin (don't ask) and my current Blackberry has had an ongoing problem with its microphone.

I was contemplating getting the iPhone 5 when it was released, but wasn't impressed that there appeared to be little difference to its predecessor the 4S. Step forward the Samsung Galaxy III (S3), which ticks all my boxes and has been the object of my technological desire for the past couple of months.

Winter Warmer - Malin & Goetz Dark Rum Candle

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Brrrr! The weather in blighty (that's England to my international readers) has taken a sharp turn for the worse over the past 48 hours, winter is most definitely almost here.

Some of the best things about the colder weather are cozy thick socks, snuggling up to someone special, sipping hot chocolate and playing with lovely smelling candles!

The Nail Files: Revlon Top Speed in Forbidden (560)

Saturday, October 27, 2012

I tend to shy away from red nail polishes. I don't feel many suit me, I guess I've just been looking at the wrong shades - pillar box reds are out, and crimson and blood reds are in.

I recently picked up Revlon Forbidden, which has their Top Speed formula and features in Revlon's current Shanghai collection and I love it.

Perfect to wear all year round, it oozes sophistication and I haven't stopped admiring my nails since applying it yesterday. It's definitely a winner. Two coats and a top coat had given me shiny nails to play with for the next few days. One thing though, despite it being flogged as 'Top Speed', I can't say I noticed a marked difference in its drying time, but don't let that deter you from trying it for yourself. I currently have OPI Lincoln Park After Dark on my toes, but this is going on my tootsies next.

What are your favourite red polishes?

Boots Botanics - New Packaging and New Products

Monday, October 15, 2012

I picked up my eye make up remover of choice a few weeks ago in Boots, and was a bit taken aback by its new appearance. Gone is the plain, safe design of the Boots Botanics range, and instead I was greeted by a funkier, vibrant look.

The entire range has seen a revamp and new products and ranges have also been introduced after a collaborating with Royal Botanic Gardens, kew.

Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up remover, in my opinion, is a cheaper version of Lancome's famed Bi-Facil, both having the same oily feeling consistency and both removing my eye make up quickly, without irritation. However, I know which purchase leaves me with more change in my wallet, so it's a no-brainer why the Botanics version has been repurchased repeatedly.

The new Soothing  Hand Cream is pretty much what you'd expect from a hand cream. It moisturises well, doesn't leave my hands feeling overly greasy and erm yeah..it's just a standard hand cream, I guess. It doesn't particularly excite me but will provide relief for those who have trouble with dry skin.

The new ranges available are:

I've read a few tweets praising the Botanics Radiant Youth Microdermabrasion Polish and as Boots are running their popular 3 for 2 offer, I'm going to try and pick this up during the week. Have any of you tried it?

* The hand cream is a sample, provided for review consideration. The make up remover was purchased by me, as I've duly done for the past four years.

The Nail Files: Misa Dirty Sexy Money

Sunday, October 14, 2012

I can't believe it's taken me about three years to share this polish. When the sun's shining, this is my go to nail colour and I also love to wear it in the dead of winter to add some colour to the doom and gloom I'm surrounded by .

I even have two back ups, just in case any unexpected surprises regarding its production occur!!

Misa is an American company, which I discovered, through blogging a couple of years ago. Dirty Sexy Money (best nail polish name ever!) is gorgeous greeny-turquoise dusky creme. It's difficult to describe it, and for years I didn't come across any other shade quite like it.

It flatters my skin tone like a dream and always gets me compliments when I wear it. I adore it! Application is a dream and it lasts well too, with the aid of a trusty top coat.

I have a few other Misa polishes, but this one definitely gets the most wear. I've bought all mine from Transdesign.com (when I'm in New York) and I'm yet to find a UK stockist.  Have you tried any Misa polishes?

ETA: I've just been informed that BeautyChamber stock Misa in the UK!

Beating the Flu-ey Blues

Saturday, October 13, 2012

A few weeks ago, the recent weather change knocked me for six and I immediately picked up a cold from heaven knows where. To be fair, I rarely get ill, but when I do, like many, it tends to hit me hard. Heavy headaches, constant runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, not to mention I could barely breathe - you name it, I had it.

I arrived home one evening to find this little lot waiting for me from Marie-Claire at the Boots Press Office, who had caught wind of how unwell I was feeling. It was totally unexpected and a lovely gesture, which I really appreciated.

I'm back to my normal self now, but the sniffles still kicked in every morning for a short period of time after the worst of my cold was over. Either way I'm ready to advance war against the lurgies should I be unlucky enough to pick up another cold at some point over the next few months.

As well as these remedies, I was also taking these Beecham Flu-Plus Caplets too. As luck would have it the items I were sent aren't on the Boots website except they Vitamin C tablets and multipack of tissues, but can be found instore.

Rihanna Bags Another Vogue Cover - November 2012

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Rihanna has tweeted a photo of her upcoming second Vogue cover (I'm pretty sure Anna Wintour choked on her green tea at the news of it being leaked) . The self confessed good girl gone bad, first graced the cover of the iconic fashion mag in April 2011 and the difference between this and her new cover couldn't be further apart.

Please Vote For Me - Precious Awards 2012 (I'm a finalist - eeek!)

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Vex in the City has been my baby for three and half years now and it's been a great experience so far. As much as I love blogging it's impossible (certainly for me anyway) to blog non-stop all the time. I have other interests and these have been taking up a lot of my time lately, so I was genuinely stunned to receive an email last Sunday, informing me that I'd been selected as a finalist for Blogger of The Year at the 6th Annual Precious Awards.

The PRECIOUS Awards were founded to celebrate the achievements of inspirational entrepreneurial women of colour who are running businesses in the UK and their Blogger of the Year category is one of two is voted for by the public.

I'd be so grateful if you could vote for me. Just click here, write my blog name in the box and click submit. That's all you have to do!

Thank you to everyone who's supported my blog over the years :-)

NEW! Lauren Conrad - Beauty + Giveaway

Saturday, October 13, 2012

I was a huge fan of The Hills, and Lauren Conrad, although a little prim and proper at times, could do no wrong in the fashion stakes for me. I loved the clean, sophisticated, yet fashionable style she became famous for when the LA-based show ruled the airwaves.

Just the other day, I saw a random news story about her and wondered what she was up to these days, and I got my answer when a few days later I was contacted about her new beauty book.

Orly Flash Glam FX Collection

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Hello, remember me? A mixture of writer's block and having a social life on par with a whirlwind has left me struggling to get back into the swing of blogging. I needed a break from it all, but I'm back now. It's funny how I'll get the urge to block at the most random times - usually past midnight!

I promised myself that I wouldn't be uttering the 'C' word on here anytime soon, but after viewing this photo on Facebook,  late last night, I immediately thought of how fab these Orly polishes would look for Christmas!

The first of the Flash Glam FX collection was actually released in August but my head's been under a rock of late and I totally missed these. I believe all the shades are now available to buy.

Christmas isn't that far away and rocking one of these is an easy way to bring a little pizazz to your nails when you're attending all your Crimbo parties and dinners.

This is just a snapshot of the collection - there are 22 shades in total.

With that said, the photo is somewhat deceiving as I was under the illusion that these were opaque in finish and a solid glitter-fest, but multiple swatches, courtesy of Google reveal that the glitter is in fact infused in clear polish and therefore takes a few coats to cover the nail in its entirety. Still, they'll be nice for layering over other polishes, I suppose.

Orly Flash Glam FX polishes are currently permanent and the only UK site I could find them on was Nailtopia where they're priced £8.35 each.

Has anybody used this site before by the way?
