Nanoblur – Used Over Liquid Foundation

If you read my orignal post on Nanoblur, you’ll know that I was quite impressed with how it performed under mineral make up. This morning I tried it with a liquid foundation – the base of choice being Illamasqua’s Skin Base (review here) and as promised, here’s what I thought of it, when used in this way.

I moisturised my face as normal and then applied Skin Base to my face, waited a few seconds and then hesitantly picked up my tube of Nanoblur wondering how the devil I was going to apply this OVER my foundation, without making an utter mess of  my carefully applied base.

I smoothed a little across my left cheek carefully, and immediately noticed a streak of foundation -argh! I smoothed in a little more, making it even worse. I then tried a different tactic and began to pat Nanoblur over my skin, trying to disturb my base as little as possible. This method failed miserably too, resulting in grey, dry looking patches all over my face! Illamasqua’s Skin Base has NEVER changed colour on me, I didn’t even know it was possible for my foundation to change so dramatically. I looked ill! Ironically, this was the same result I got whenever I tried (and failed) to use Clarins Flash Balm which hates me for some reason.

By this point my face was a complete mess – my foundation no longer looked glowy, but looked pasty, dry and patchy. In frustration I grabbed a face wipe and quickly wiped it all of my face (I had 5 minutes to get out of the door and head to work!). I re-moisturised, applied Nanoblur again and this time put my Bare Escentuals foundation back on – and voila my skin looked the mirror of smoothness again and it was the correct colour!! Weird, weird, WEIRD!

This experiment lasted approximately 15 minutes and resulted in me almost being late for work!  So in a nutshell, applying Nanoblur OVER liquid foundation, was an absolute disaster – as I’d predicted. I need to see a demo of this being used over liquid foundation because I can’t for the life of me grasp how one would perfect an application technique, which wouldn’t leave your base a mess. In fact I don’t even believe it’s possible. HOW can this be possible?

There are dozens and dozens of different liquid foundations on the market, which come in different textures, formulas and use different ingredients. It’s highly unlikely that this product will perform the same way with all of them, which is just as well as I don’t have the patience or time to trial it with them all either but still, I remain sceptial. I’ll try mixing it with moisturiser and using that combination UNDER a liquid foundation next, but I’m done with ever attempting to use it OVER one again. At least I know it works under mineral make up for me, so it serves a purpose.
