My hair had been hidden away in weaves for the past few months but I was a bit worried about how it was faring during my pregnancy, so decided to ‘go natural’ for a while to give it a breather.
I needn’t have worried, I was left in the capable hands of the staff at Afrotherapy in Edmonton, North London. Afrotherapy specialises in both natural, as well as chemically treated afro hair. It offers a range of servivces from cuts and colouring to weaves and braids and also stocks haircare lines from the likes of Keracare, Moroccanoil and Mixed Chicks to name a few.
The salon itself is sharp in design, sleek and modern, with a number of workstations. It operates on an appointment only system, which immediatlely removes the irritating problem of spending an entire day in the hairdressers, due to appointments being overbooked.
Afrotheraphy is run by husband and wife team, Joseph and Harriet. Their staff are professional, friendly, yet importantly not overbearing and I immediately felt at ease and looked forward to the styling ahead. My weave was swiftly removed and my hair given an intense deep condition which felt heavenly and was much needed. Mizani products were used on my hair, which left it feeling squeaky clean and smelling heavenly.
This was the natural style created for me. Kanekalon hair was added to create volume at the front and within the twists running down the sides. It was fun style, but only lasted a few days – as do a lot of natural styles, before they need to be redone.
I really enjoyed my experience at Afrotherapy and if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s not as close to home as I’d like, I’d probably be a regular customer. They really listen to the needs of the customer, without cutting corners and give a
