Like many, I’m not a fan of the dentist. I’ve had my mouth butchered on no less than two separate occasions, by dentists who appeared to show little regard for the delicate craftmanship that dental work requires. So a couple of weeks ago, I approached Smilepod with an air of hesitation, to experience their High Gloss Diamond Polish treatment.
With seven branches across London, all located five minutes from a tube station,, I went to the Holborn branch, a stones throw away from Tottenham Court Road. As I stepped into the bright and airy premises, greeted by the receptionists who were cheery and welcoming – I was impressed already!

The High Gloss Diamond Polish is an intense clean and polish of your teeth where your pearly whites are blasted with a diamond polishing paste to restore their natural sparkle and whiteness.
Initially an ultra sonic scaler is used to remove the heavy deposits of tartar with a special tip. The tip vibrates at a high rate and flushes out bacteria and deposits from below the gum with water. It smooths out bumps and divots in the surface to prevent further buildup.
Then hand scale removes any small pieces they have not removed. Hand scaling allows the dentist to carefully feel any small pieces of build-up missed during the ultrasonic treatments. This is followed as an air flow, a fine jet of calcium carbonate powder smooth, soft & gentle to the tooth.
This enables efficient and faster stain removal. Finally, the diamond polishing paste with minute particles of diamond for that silky smooth finish for a perfect smile. My dentist, Helia, was friendly and took her time to explain each stage of the treatment to me. She was thorough, yet careful not to cause discomfort or pain.
The process was indeed painless, my mouth just ached a little from being prised open for such a long period of time. My treatment lasted half an hour and I left with a gleaming smile. I could instantly see the difference, my teeth were noticeable whiter and felt incredibly smooth and polished as I ran my tongue along my teeth. The High Gloss Diamond Polish is recommended every six months and without a shadow of a doubt, I’ll be returning for a second treatment. It’s brilliant!
