Our homes are our castles and we want them to be a reflection of ourselves, whilst making the very best of their size (not to mention our budgets) for decor and restoration. By adding key accessories to different rooms, you can add character and charm.
When it comes to bedroom decorating ideas, there’s so much to consider. Personally I want my bedroom to be a calming influence, somewhere to retreat to after a long day, which will encourage me to relax. Soothing wall colours, soft lighting (I’ll take a dimmer switch please) and tranquility, teamed with warm scented candles make for the ideal setting. Finished off with luxurious contrasting fabrics which you can immerse yourself in, whilst relaxing with a book or curled up in front of the television.
I’ve always looked the idea of havng a large mirror in the bedroom, as a centrepiece. It’s an easy way to make a room appear larger and brighter and means you can bypass purchasing wardrobes with mirrored faces too. I’m aware this look will only work if you have the additional space for such a sizeable accessory in the first place.
The accents in a room often make or break the look and should be chosen with care. First, make a list of everything you need. Some purchases to think about are:
- Curtains and blinds
- Bedding – duvets, comforters, throw blankets, pillowcases, etc.
- Decorative pillows
- Wall hangings and picture frames
- A rug for chilly wood floors
- Mirrors – a stand-up mirror for a full-length view is optimal if you have the space.
On a completely different note, can we discuss the awesomeness that is the bar cart? It started out as simply a functional piece of furniture that just made sense for small space dwellers. But it’s not just about utilising space anymore. Oh, no. It’s become the must-have statement piece of the home. I distinctively remember the bar cart we had, as I was growing up. When it comes to happy hour at home, the bar cart is key for putting your spirits on display. A friend of mine has one in her flat and it looks brilliant. I think they’re such a retro, yet stylish addition to the living room.
Work from home, but no space for an office? No problem. Use a wall-mounted desk to add a small work space to your living room or bedroom. Personalise your space with a couple of motivational prints (not too many, it can easily begin to look as if you’re trying too hard) and other personal mementos. A candle, a small bunch of flowers, pretty stationary. Make your space look inviting so that you’ll want to sit down and bash out those life-changing ideas.

Use your window sill as a side table, decorating it with small decor items, such as candles, photos and books. If you’re short of space, this allows you to inject some personality into the room and display your much-loved belongings.
