When I became pregnant, I quickly learnt that a number of spa treatments were off limits to me, so I was looked forward to experiencing a treatment which was specificlaly catered for myself and my bump in mind.
As I stepped into the Elemis Day Spa, I immediately felt at a calm sense of wellbeing. Rich purple and brown tones in reception, accompanied by soft lighting instantly relaxed me. After filling in the mandatory client profile, my therapist Alisa led me downstairs to my treatment room, which was decked out in North African decor and immediately transported me back to my time at the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial in, Morrocco. It was beautiful. My photo below doesn’t do it justice at all, there was also an elaborately tiled shower room in the corner of the room,
The massage took place on a large padded beanbag, and my modesty was protected at all times. I was asked to position myself on my back and the treatment begin with my eyes being covered with a lavendar eye mask.
The treatment began with a foot scrub and mini facial. I was then massaged down my right side, finishing with a leg massage. This was then repeated on the left side of my body. The treatment ended with a head, neck and shoulder massage. In total, my massage lasted 1hr and 15 mins and and was blissful from start to finish. The massage oil used throughout was Elemis’ Frangipani Monoi Body Oil .
I was informed that my left shoulder held a lot of tension, and that I had fluid retention in the left side of my neck. This made sense as I’d been sleeping on my left side a lot as it’s recommended for better blood flow to the placenta. It was very uncomfortable for me though and I woke up frequently with a sore neck.
I was left to massage the oil into my belly myself, which I thought was a considerate touch as some women may not feel comfortable being touched in that area. I didn’t mind either way. I felt relaxed and refreshed at the end of my treatment, so it was a job well done.
For a pregnancy treat, I’d highly recommend this treatment. It’s pricey at £95, but hey, you’re pregnant and deserve some pampering given what your body goes through, so start dropping those hints!
