MAC In The Groove buys + swatches

MAC’s latest limited edition collection, In The Groove was released in the UK yesterday and as per usual, I found myself in the Pro Store on Fouberts place  – I refuse to step foot into a MAC store on a weekend as I hate the inevitable crowds.
I bumped into the gorgeous Bubblegarm who was with her Mum (I recognised her from one of her blog posts LOL) and her beloved Peanut (the most famous puppy in the beauty blogosphere), who I grabbed off her for a cuddle. He’s so cute! That dog sure knows have to command attention as all the MAC MUA’s were fawning over him.
So anyway onto my purchases. I was pretty restrained and didn’t go crazy. I had a short list and stuck to it. Obviously MSFs in Petticoat and Stereo Rose came home with me as a given. Petticoat surprised me as I imagined it to be much lighter and less flattering than it actually is on a darker skin tone, but it’s lovely. I’m very pleased to have it in my collection.
Enough rambling from me, here are some pics and swatches.

Stereo Rose – Finally I was able to see it in the flesh and see what all the fuss was about. Described on the MAC site as “Coral with golden/ bronze shimmering nuances”, this will suit a wide range of skintones doubling up as both a blush and highlighter. I can’t wait to wear this.

Petticoat – Petal rose with gold and amber veining”. Lighter than Stereo Rose but not ashy when blended onto my NC50 skintone. I know this is Miss Virtue’s favourite MSF and I can see why. It leaves a beautiful glow on the skin when gently blended. No need to go overboard with this, a little goes a long way.

Both purchases more than make up for for my Dior Amber Diamond disaster (which I swapped for So Ceylon MSF on MUA btw!).

I’m loving Band of Roses. If you have a darker skin tone, then this is a gorgeous bright pinky plum to add to your collection. You’ll love it! It gives my cheeks a wicked pop of colour (sorry, I hate using that expression but it was the first thing that popped into my head! LOL). Being the blush whore that I am, this is gonna get a LOT of love this Summer. Love, love LOVE this!!

Last but not least, I Like It Like That lipstick – and like I do. However, although it swatches as a more wearable bubble-gum like pink for a darker skin tone, because my lips aren’t very pigmented, it alters the shade somewhat and shows up as a lighter pink – still wearable though.
I promise to do a FOTD over the wkend using it, so you can see what I mean.

What are your thoughts on this collection? Did you go crazy or did you ‘behave’ yourselves?

Great post chick 🙂 I ordered 2 stereo roses, without even seeing them first! It looks ever so slightly scary in the pan, but swatched on your hand looks beautiful! Think it will work as a gorgeous blush!
Band of roses was also on my wishlist but i passed, maybe i need to pick it up!
    Gorgeous haul hun!

I only got 2 MSF's from this collection. I already had Petticoat but it smashed into little tiny bits, so I treated myself to a new one, and I ordered Stereo Rose because of Bubblegarm's post and swatches! Can't wait to get them, but I'm hating MAC's new courier service. Well, newish courier service. So much better when they were with DPD. I bought some perm things too but they're boring lol x

I had a look at the collection today, and whilst I liked the look of the MSF's they just didn't suit my pale (and I mean SUPER pale) skin. I still can't hwelp but swoon overthe swatches, but wish I could wear them! Ah well, at least it's a couple of pennies saved….

    xx

  5. 2nd July 2010 / 6:33 pm

Went for a swatch fest at MAC just to see what all the fuss was about and left with nothing. I don't really like MSF because of the shimmers. They're pretty but not for me! 10 minutes later I went back in and left with Band of Roses. LOOOOVE the dark pink color and its not too shimmery so it was perfect!
Love those shades on you skin though

Collection doesn't launch for us till next week — and until recently, my wish list had only consisted of Stereo Rose…now thanks to you and Bubblegarm, I want lipsticks too! That blush also looks fabulous. Damn MAC is doing it again to me. LOL.

    Look forward to your FOTD!

Stereo Rose and Band of roses look so cool. Is that Pink of Band of roses ay similar to Pleasantry blush? The description of stereo rose is so lovely!!

  9. 2nd July 2010 / 6:40 pm

@Resham – No idea as I don't own Pleasantry to compare hon x

This collection does not appeal to me in the slightest. I have no more love for MSF's. They are pretty but a bit too samey for me now. The blush looks good. Enjoy your goodies!

I was waiting for this post to pop up in my dashboard! I love seeing what you've bought and your swatches. I won't get a chance to look at this until I hit Duty Free next week. I like the look of Petticoat alot but I think maybe I'm too pale for Stereo Rose? I'm loving the look of Jazzed lippy too thanks to Tali and Bubblegarm!

I didnt even realise the collection is out now! I have to hurry on down to MAC 2mro and pick up stereo rose!

  23. 3rd July 2010 / 1:15 pm

@Deborah Jones – I know what you mean. The ones I own are all different in their own right, I made sure of that as they do have a tendency to look very samey!

@Makeup by Kim Porter – LOL Thanks

@LoveAudrey – LOL Are my MAC haulage posts that legendary now? Oh good, you'll get 17.5% off! I think Stereo Rose would suit you if used with a light hand.

@Jo – You can never have enough neutrals – hence my future purchase of the UD Naked palette LOL

@Muhsine – It's so nice! It looked hot on you too. You're welcome xx

@BeautyGeeek – How the devil did you forget your purse? I'd have cried! LOL

@Tali – LMAO! You joker! NO SUNBEDS LADY!

@AnnaV – Only Soften the Mood and In The Groove caught my eye. The others didn't really wow me to be honest. Yeah, you can make a killing on Stereo Rose if you don't want it later 😉

    @blazeno.8 – Yep, hurry! LOL

@Rosa Adores – I bought By Candlelight first time round. It's pretty and gives a soft illuminating glow.

@Catranya – Thanks. I'm pleased with my little haul.

@Imo – Yeah! It came out early!

  24. 3rd July 2010 / 1:26 pm

Um, so I'm pretty sure EVERYTHING ever looks great on your skintone 😛

I never knew Stereo Rose was that dark! Then again, I suppose I've never really sought out photos of it either

  25. 26th July 2010 / 9:45 am

How very curious, when I swatch Stereo Rose and Petticoat, the latter is the more pigmented darker colour on me which I really like and Stereo Rose is a very light pink with lots of sheen (for ref I'm NC44). Maybe it was just the one at my counter being lighter than most…
