Having read so many positive recommendations for other Sunday Riley products, I had high hopes that this nightly facial oil would work wonders. When this facial oil launched, like many, I was falling over myself to try it.
I love a facial oil. The steps of massaging a rich oil into my skin after cleansing in the evening and allowing it to plump and soften throughout the night.
Housed in an attractive glass bottle with dropper dispenser, its deep navy tone is as peculiar as it is eye-catching and quite the novelty. Full of skin plumping ingredients including blue pansy (which is spoken of extremely highly over on Into The Gloss), avocado oil, grape seed oil and german chamomile, it came as somewhat of a surprise to see that the ingredients list also contains two colourants – so that’s how the blue colour was formed? Hmmm…
I apply 3 drops on top of a serum (at the moment I’m using Dr LeWinn’s Miracle Radiance Renewal Serum) and let it work its magic overnight. Upon waking, I most certainly do wake with silky smooth skin, which after cleansing and prep, does look significantly better once I’ve applied make-up.
Marketed as a retinol oil that fights the signs of ageing, pore size and the appearance of damaged skin, it ticks what I look for in a night treatment. I’ve been using this fairly frequently over the past four months and whilst on some nights I have used it on its own, I prefer to pair it with a serum. I like the idea of making it go further with an additional product to boost its properties and find it works well with my chosen partner for it.
Sunday Riley Luna is pricey, coming in at an eye-watering £85 for 30ml of product. Of course, if you look hard enough you can find alternative products which perform just as well, which cost considerably less, and this can be said of most beauty products. I think if my skin was free of all the other issues I have with it, I’d be swinging from the rooftops declaring how marvellous this product is. It’s a good product, but I feel it’s wasted on my skin, in its current condition, if that makes sense. It leaves my skin feeling well nourished and protected, vital for this harsh weather we’re now encountering but my issues with dark spots and pigmentation are not improving despite its wonderous claims – they need to be dealt with separately.
That aside, my first experience of Sunday Riley products has been a positive one and I look forward to trying some other products from the line. I expect the rush to try the new Blue Moon Tranquillity Cleansing Balm will be on par with the buzz surrounding Luna, when it launches here in the UK shortly.
