We share the closest of relationships, consider them family, tell them our most coveted secrets, laugh until we cry together and share both the highs and lows that life brings our way. Friends, what would we do without them? International Day of Friendship is on Thursday (which also happens to be my birthday, but I digress) and while we should show appreciation for our friends all the time, why not have a special day to mark their amazingness!
I consider myself lucky that one of my closest friends has known me since the age of 11. We’ve watched one another grow and she has seen me at my happiest, my lowest, when I’ve been good and equally when I’ve been bad and has stuck with me through thick and thin. Your friends should enrich your live, enourage your dreams, tell you when you’re making a fool of yourself and be there through to support you through the bad aswell as the good times.
She lives in the Caribbean now, but we pick up whereever we last left off each time we speak and she’s the epitome of what I consider to be a good friend – fun, kind, honest, reliable, generous and loyal to a fault . I’m hoping to visit her really soon, so she can finally meet Cassius in person.
On the flip side, I’ve reached a stage in my life where I do not suffer fools glady (well, I never have to be fair, but now more than ever) and the moment I feel someone isn’t bringing positivity or has my best interests at heart, I get rid. This was the case a few years ago, when I cut all ties with a friend (I use the term loosely), who didn’t actually appear to care much about me (she was forever talking about herself on the phone), more so what I could do for her and what she could benefit from, by us being ‘friends’. Her narcissism combined with large toppings of bitchiness and two faced behviour gave me no choice but to delete her from all areas from my life as she was bringing me down and making me miserable, something I hadn’t experienced since dealing with the class bully in primary school!
She was quite vicious and displayed traits of the type of friendship I didn’t want to develop further+. And so without warnig I deleleted her no, ignoring phone calls and emails until eventually she got the message and stopped contacting me. It was such a weight off my shoulders and I’ve continued to adopt the same method of behaviour whenever I get bad vibes from someone. I have enough going on without dealing with petty mind games and untrustworthy peeps.
I have some amazing friends, and I consider myself very bkessed to have such a strong network od people around me. I hope my son develops the same kind of friendships that I have over the years. Here’s to many more years of friendship, fun and laughter.
