Pregnancy Update #3 – A New Arrival

It’s taken me longer than I thought it would to write this blog post, but my life changed forever seven weeks ago, with the arrival of my son, Cassius and has been a whirlwind ever since. Cassius made his grand entrance into the world at 3:22am, May 2 and stole my heart the second I lay eyes on him.

I cannot put into words how much I love this little human being. He means the absolute world to me.

I was induced due to health reasons a few days before my due date of May 3, but Cassius still arrived just a day before my due date.
My labour wasn’t as scary as I had feared it would be and in hindsight I think I coped with the pain of labour quite well – hoewver that may have had something to do with the epidural I had, so ignore that! I was discharged at lumchtime the day I gave birth, and this decision was a mistake as I found myself being readmitted 5 days later with suspected eclampsia. Luckily I didn’t go on to develop it, but still had to stay in hospital with my newborn son on my own (which was extremely difficult) for what was the longest three days and nights of my life! By the time I was discharged, I had staff coming in to say goodbye as they knew how much I wanted to go home!!
Gone are the days where I would lie in bed at the weekend until gone 12pm. I’m extremely lucky if I get four hours sleep a night these days. Each sleep deprived moment is worthwhile though when I look into my son’s gorgeous big brown eyes and he gazes back, putting all his trust in me to keep him safe. There are moments when I just stare in awe at what my partner and I have created. He’s amazing and so cute – obviously I’m biased, but he is!
He’s changed so much in seven weeks and his personality is beginning to develop. It’s wonderful to watch and notice how he develops on a day to day basis. I stare and marvel at his existence on a daily basis – he must be sick of the sight of me by now. If I’m not stroking his hair or face, I’m sticking my phone or camera in his face for that next keepsake shot.

I could go on and on and on, but it’s currently 2:06am and I don’t know how long he’s gonna stay asleep for, so I better round this up or you’ll be waiting another 7 weeks for this post!

So here he is, my beauiful son.

An obligatory ‘drunk on milk’ shot
My cheeky little chicken – chicken as opposed to monkey because when he’s curled up on my chest having a snooze, he looks like a roast chicken with his arms and legs tucked in!
Simply put, he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I feel both grateful and extremely lucky to be experiencing these wonderful moments.
