Now that summer is well and truly over, it’s the perfect time to choose a new scent to carry you through the colder months. The new YSL Black Opium EDT fragrance may well be a contender. Not to be confused with Black Opium EDP, (yes, I found it a little confusing too), Black Opium EDT is a lighter version of its predecessor.
The original YSL Opium has been my mother’s favourite fragrance for years, but I’m personally not a fan. YSL’s Belle D’Opium which I reviewed here (have a look, it made me chuckle reading over it), left me feeling lukewarm. Therefore based on past experiences with the collection, I was a little hesitant as I slipped it out of its box and admired the bottle’s deluxe design.
I was, however, left pleasantly surprised. YSL Black Opium EDT, for me, is the likeable younger sister of the Opium clan. Although the key note remains the same, coffee, it’s paired with blackcurrant and pear zest, which tone the coffee notes down, making the scent warmer and for me, more wearable.
As the scent settles, jasmine tea notes and sweet orange blossom make an appearance making this a welcome addition to my perfume collection.
This can be worn either day or night. As an evening fragrance, it’s alluring and sexy and I prefer it as an evening scent. No need to go crazy when spraying it as it runs the risk of being too heavy – depends on what your nose can take. Two small squirts are all I need and it lasts several hourss before wearing down, but leaves a soft imprint behind. If you want a racy, stand out scent, which leaves its mark but isn’t too intoxicating, then this is a forerunner for a top autumn/winter fragrance.
